LSU has missed going to a bowl game TWICE since 1994.
In 16 of the last 18 seasons, LSU has had a winning record and gone to a bowl game, winning 11 of those 16 bowl games.
In addition, LSU has finished in the Final Top Ten 9 times since 1996.
Wew have also been to the BCSNCG three times, winning it all twice, and gone to the SECCG 5 times, winning it 4 times.

NO OTHER SEC team can match all these accomplishments in the last 20 years.

Are you sure about that? Alabama's last seven years alone are better.

Thats another thing that makes this question so hypothetical. A large part of my argument for LSU is the talent, but the state wasn't nearly as talented 30 years ago. Who's to say it will be the same 30 years from now.

Local talent always helps for many reasons but even that isn't going to keep any one team alive. There's also the fact that the SEC is no longer our own private regional patch of the US but the premier conference that everyone in the US watches both to praise and to hate. We're a juggernaut and that makes recruits that wouldn't otherwise travel so far away from home consider it. THAT is also going to change things in recruiting.

LSU's talent pool is still vastly smaller than Texas A&M's, and they will never recruit better in east Texas than A&M,

This is funny considering we have Ed Paris, Chris Hardeman, and potentially Tony Brown stolen right out of A&M's back yard.

I think I showed we have at least equaled that.

Meh. Our group of recruits out of East Texas will be better than yours. Number one class in the country speaks for itself.

Counterpoint: Of the listed teams, which have actually sustained long-term success over the history of their programs?

Difference is, LSU is most likely going to pull two or three of the top guys from east TX, while a&m will have over 20 guys from the same area.
How can we measure who will be "better", in this comparison?

exactly, Alabama has been on top largely due to the fact that they have had 2 of the greatest coaches in college football history. But the fact is that Saban went to Alabama, because it was Alabama, and would have left the NFL for very few schools.

People citing the past. I dont think you can look at the last 100 years, and say that the next 100 years will be exactly the same. The game is light years different.

Except that Bama's success isn't just defined by Saban and Bryant.

Stallings won a national title, 70 total games, never finished worse than 3rd in the west and won it 4 times in seven seasons.

In eight seasons, Wallace Wade was 2-0-1 in the Rose Bowl and won 3 sec titles.

In 15 years, Frank Thomas won 4 SEC titles, two Rose Bowls, an Orange Bowl, a Cotton Bowl, and made two more Rose Bowl appearances.

They've won at least one overall conference title every decade the league's existed and would be 4th in all time league titles without a single one of Bryant or Saban's.

I'll grant that nothing in the future is guaranteed, but the game's changed throughout it's entire history and Alabama's always managed to find it's way to the top.

thank you, thats the book. Your comment is just more detailed than mine. I just wanted to make that remark that when reading the book they talked about how it definitely was a factor in getting people to visit, and it was a question by African American parents... it also said that once they got them to visit, they would show them the "beauty" of the ole miss campus

Imagine if all you had heard from other coaches and recruiters was that Ole Miss was racist, and then when you get there you're like "oh, shite, it's not any worse than any other SEC school." That's pretty much ever significant recruit we've had to fight for. As someone mentioned earlier, they ALWAYS say stuff like "it wasn't at all what I was expecting" when they're interviewed. It makes you wonder what exactly it was that they were expecting and why they were expecting it.

Seriously, since 1994? UF has been the top program in the country since 1990.

Florida has missed going to a bowl game...NEVER since 1994

In 18 of the last 18 season, UF had a winning record and went to a bowl game every year and won 11 of the 18 games. Not to mention playing in a major/BCS bowl game in 11 of those seasons.

In addition, UF has finished in the Final Top 10 12 times since 1994.

Florida has also played for 4 national titles and won 3. Gone to the SECCG 9 times since '94, winning it 6 times.

I'm pretty sure no other SEC team can match these accomplishments.

Moral of this story? Hire good coaches.

I am amused however that by page four, most of the discussion is about the past in a thread about the future.

That's because the past is relevant to the future when it comes to the program. Small success breeds big success.

However, they ( Alabama ) have to be able to recruit Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, or Texas to have very high level success.

Yeah since 60% of Baton Rouge's population is black and Oxford didn't have a KKK rally on their campus or anything less than 5 years ago. GTFO with your ignorance.

What does this prove?

Westboro Baptist protested in Oxford a couple of weeks ago. Does that somehow make all of us batshit crazy paranoid homophobe hyper-Baptists?

The Klan had a protest on the Ole Miss campus to protest against the school's administration. How is that something to blame us for? How is that something we should be at all apologetic for? "Oh no! We did something the KKK doesn't like! The horror!"

Over the past 6 years, LSU, Michigan, OSU, Texas, USC, and Notre Dame all had the best class in their respective years for the longest time.

Alabama ended up #1 every time, bro.

What rally???? You mean the "PROTEST" the KKK had AGAINST The University of Mississippi??? Protesting against the university means Ole Miss might have been doing something right.
