Met him returning from Thanksgiving 2 years ago in the Atlanta airport, dude was incredibly sweet and gracious in meeting me and taking pictures. Hopefully this picture uploads correctly for you all to see. RIP to a very accomplished and great man.

He did suffer from a type of cancer. That is why he stepped down as commissioner. He lived at Shoal Creek. Next door to his good friend Paul F-Bomb.

A good man who will be missed.

Some good tweets from Clay Travis:

quote:

Awful news about former SEC commissioner Mike Slive. Prayers to his family. He was a phenomenal person, brilliant and kind. Two stories for you: morning after my second son was born, the phone rang. It was Slive congratulating me, the first non-family member to call.

quote:

I wrote a profile on Slive a decade or so ago. Before it ran, he called me with a request. When he’d been talking about how much SEC fans mattered to him and the extent to which he cared about the conference he tested up & started to cry. It was real and authentic.

Slive was a fantastic man. Best to his family. College sports lost a great man today.

We could have used him during the LSU Florida nonsense. As much as I enjoy I good petty shite show, that man would have cleaned it up behind closed doors.
