Missouri has 6, last player to get his retired played in 1997

Don’t think we’ll retire anymore unless someone wins a Heisman or a natty.
I imagine it’s because of what he did at Pitt State in the 1980s?

Mizzou is pure dogshlt tho.

Mizzou leads Florida 7-6

Tenn has 6 National Titles

Some of those “titles” are absolute bullshite. Like 1967

Texas has 5 “unclaimed” national titles.

Looking at AP/BCS/CFP, Tennessee has 1951 and 1998. Texas has 1963, 69 and 05

Texas is not even fricking close to number 3..holy fricking shite..sorry but Tenn, Georgia have a very clear history of being better. So have LSU and UF and Auburn actually.. Noone does less with more than Texas.

Tennessee has no argument over Texas. Not a single one

Not on our level

I assumed he was saying Arky football is of the same level of shittiness as Mizzou baseball. I'm in agreement with that part of his post, if that's what he meant.

Makes some sense. Horrible today but has an old title

What source(s) was used for creating this list?

History

2007 UGA

They lost badly to Tennessee and lost to .500 SC. They didn’t deserve an opportunity any more than Missouri that year
I hate rematches

1996 Florida-FSU rematch was only possible, because undefeated Arizona State played in the Rose Bowl due to their PAC-10 tie in.

Had that been BCS era, Arizona State and Florida State would’ve played for all the marbles, while Florida would’ve been sent to the Sugar Bowl to face some at large team

And on probation for cheating.

That didn’t stop 1974 Oklahoma
quote:

UF 84, 85, 90

That ‘90 Tennessee loss has to keep them out
1966 Alabama (laughable snub)

1974 Alabama (no probation, tough schedule, played and lost extra game)

1975 Alabama (lost early, deserved a split)

1983 Auburn (didn’t lose to Florida)

2004 Auburn (deserved a split)

And if 1974 Alabama didn’t deserve their title due to record, then 1993 Auburn did

Let me know if I missed anybody
This won’t change anything. They were already selected as national champs that year by Poling.

That’s good enough to claim a championship for most schools, but I guess Missouri decided not to. 5 other schools claim 1960, always felt MU should join them and make it 6

Based on the last several years, UGA may deserve a high ranking, but they consistently underperformed for many, many years prior to that, especially when considering the in-state talent base and financial resources available to the program. You did say "all-time," right?

Georgia is high because they were rarely ever bad. They were just constantly fielding good football teams, so they rank pretty high.

Tons of bowl games, and now Kirby Smart era gave them the hardware to move them up. I even made a post confirming they were the 2nd best program in SEC history behind Alabama

A&M and Arkansas is debatable

I have a hard time seeing Ole Miss above A&M
1. Alabama
2. Oklahoma
3. Texas
4. Georgia
5. LSU
6. Florida
7. Tennessee
8. Auburn
9. A&M
10. Arkansas
11. Ole Miss
12. Missouri
13. South Carolina
14. Miss State
15. Kentucky
16. Vanderbilt

I think the most contentious are UGA-Texas, and of course UF/Vols/Aub. 9-11 is another, and maybe 13-15

A winning head to head record doesn’t equate to program superiority, especially with small sample sizes
Is it a Sugar Bowl ring?

I imagine those used to be a big deal in SEC land, and still probably significant for Ole Miss. and it wasn’t like it was Ok State, they beat a really good team in this Sugar Bowl
For me, Tennessee-Alabama. Imagine telling someone back in 1992 they’d never face each other in a title game

Florida-LSU is another. And they’ve both been good at the same time, just never crossed paths

They’ve done nothing in almost 30 years. Name recognition doesn’t get you that high of a valuation

It matters. Brand and fanbase matters. Cowboys haven’t made a conference championship game in 30 years but are probably the most valuable NFL franchise
