He had prostate cancer and he reported he was undergoing treatment for a recurrence in 2015. Cancer is a bitch.

God rest your soul Mike.

Thanks Mike.

RIP Mike.

If you really want to know how great Mike Slive was at his job just look at what Conference USA became after he left to become commissioner of the SEC.

Thanks for your service and your hard work Mike.

Thoughts go out to your family and close friends.

He was so instrumental in allowing Texas A&M enter the Southeastern Conference.

He will always be remembered by Aggies everywhere.

Sweet story about his regular Saturday breakfast appearance:

Mr. Slive holds court at Salem's Diner

Best memory for me was one morning when granddaughter Abigail wanted to sit up at the counter... in the exact chair that I happened to be occupying at the moment. Spoken to me by a four-year-old with the characteristic Slive smile and firmness.

I could not move to another chair fast-enough. Laughter all the way around, including me.

This doesn't get talked about enough. Under Slive, Conference USA was a pretty solid conference. When the SEC hired him, I worked at a C-USA institution and the faculty athletics representative was in my department.

He said to me that it was the worst day in the history of C-USA. I didn't understand it at the time, but what happened to C-USA after he left proved him right.

Six schools that were members of C-USA under Slive's leadership have made New Years 6 bowl games since 2014. To put that in perspective, only five SEC schools have done that in the same time period.

If he would have kept that C-USA together, we would have a Power 6.

I would say if all of the AD's since we joined the SEC he was by far the fairest. Showed or did a great job of hiding any favoritism towards a particular school. He will be missed
