I don't think Paul's a bad coach overall, but he's clueless about how to relate to modern players and handle the portal and NIL.

He and Brian Kelly are in the same unable to adapt boat.

SCAR unfortunately got Paul about 20 years too late. He was a good (enough) coach in his era but like all things, Father Time is undefeated.

In ALL fanbases defense, in the age of NIL and limitless transfers, teams CAN and ARE turned around in a single season.

I never understood the hype for this dude. Sure he won at LSU but LSU isn’t exactly a tough place to win at.

It’s legitimately insane Tanner thought hiring maineri was a sensible idea for any stretch of time. Carolina fans have every right to loathe that guy

What an idiotic statement by him. Fielding two of the worst teams in Gamecock history doesn't equate to impatient fans...

Usce got lucky on the bat change rule. They suck outside of that. He is right.

Yes. And then some spend over $20 million on a roster and crash and burn - LSU football at 7-6, Kentucky basketball sitting at home, LSU baseball right now.

It is possible, see Indiana, to get the right coach and use the portal to get the right roster.

But it is still about the coach who can do it.

Firing any coach, especially one who won a national championship, less than half way through the second season is impatient.

It just is. But that is sports these days.

I guess that explains why Carolina had the most wins in college baseball from 2000 until the change to the dead bat bbcor era - and why USC set the record for most consecutive Super appearances (8) - as well as played in Omaha 2002-2003-2004 with a Runner Up that actually changed the title format from 1 game to a 3 game series -

there was also that game we hit a NCAA record 5 consecutive Home Runs in an inning during the Athens Super when we were no good before the dead bat era -

of course we sucked so bad in the bbcor era that we actually played in 3 straight title series 2010 2011 2012 winning the CWS in 2010 & 2011 -

quote:

He is right.
that we expected his resume was supposed to be good enough to guide a program that had just come off a Super and Regional season the 2 prior to his being hired for 2025 -

and then he sets the school record for most losses in a 30 game SEC season going 6-24 and posts an overall losing record - only the 3rd since 1971 -

the *infinite wisdom* for off-the-cuff and uninformed takes on this forum continues to shine through - never change Rant

Sounds to me like he's pretty pissed. I bet he moves back to St. Gabriel and wears the purple in the stands at Alex Box for the rest of his days.

All of this. Even as an LSU fan who will forever be grateful to him for the 2009 season and the other Omaha years he brought us, I was completely stumped on why SC hired him in the first place. He was clearly out of his prime.

Mainieri has always made excuses when things go wrong. It’s never his fault. Anyone who paid attention to his LSU tenure knew that. He was a good coach in his prime, but the game passed him by while he was at LSU.

I mean... if you come in saying this isn't a rebuild and then you proceed to put out a team that looks like it needs a rebuild....

I would usually pop in and defend a coach that was canned short of two years... but in this case it was really bad and only getting worse.

May as well take care of now what SC would just end up having to do at the end of the year or shortly after.

It was worse than our hiring Ron Polk back in 2002. We could have gotten Mainieiri from Notre Dame. He came to Regional in 2000 and had some very nice things to say about the experience. That was before he got old and complacent.

Sorry. That's bs. If someone hires you to do a job, you do it to the best of your ability. Paul didn't do that.
