This is so stupid. Let’s be honest, he’s been called Deion for years and years being a celebrity. I admit , it would be hard for me to NOT called him “Deion” by mistake once called upon to ask a question.

He came in looking for something to whine about.

Favorite Deion quote - "I defined cornerback. They should rename that position Deion."

Kirby was recently asked if he resents being called Kirby and he said he doesn't care. Kirby isn't uppity.

Also, what do they call Nick?

In press conferences, veteran and beat reporters call him “Nick.”

Kiffin's reply was similar to Kirby's: As a HC I've got a lot more to worry about than how I addressed. And I've been called a lot of things".

If he wants to be called coach Sanders then that’s what the reporters should call him.

I don’t see why he cares so much, but maybe he’s really serious about his coaching career and feels like he needs to get his image established from the get go, rather than trying to sort it out after he’s more well established.

A man deserves to be called by the correct title has has attained. He is the head coach and wishes to be addressed as Coach Sanders, and if they do not they are disrespecting him and he should walk out.

Deion is a clown and will never coach a P5 job especially pulling crap like this.

quote:

You don't call Nick Saban, 'Nick.' Don't call me Deion," Sanders told Nick Suss from the Clarion Ledger.

80% of reporters call Nick Saban Nick because they are not fans. Fans of college football call him coach or coach Saban. Most Reporters doing their job call him Nick because it’s supposed to be a professional exchange.

He’s just mad because the CL also did a story on the commit they signed that’s currently in jail that no other teams would sign.

This is the kind of crap that happens when the mrs stops putting out.

The coach title is earned. No doubt. But he is the coach for the university of alabama. Not the media. It would be like me calling Deion "dad" because he has kids.

"Deion" has always been kind of a tool. Fans (and media) slobber over tools all the time. Im not shocked that people defend this type of behavior.

It's not unreasonable to have a preference... But with that said, you're a household name in so many ways... Nick, Kirby, Jimbo, Dabo... every single one of those guys I've seen referred to by their first name by reporters in a presser. If you want to refuse to take questions from people who continue to do it, I'd see that as fine, but walking out and making a big deal out of it is silly.

He's trying to build a new brand in a new career, in some ways, he probably does need to "separate" the Neon Deon persona from who he is now, and public interviews/press conferences would certainly be a good place to try and set boundaries.
