Never order barbecue in a state where that word is a verb. Never order barbecue from a place that looks like it passes health inspections with flying colors. Never order barbecue from a place that hasn't sold out by 5:00pm.

On a Friday at Scott's half the cars off Hwy 261 are from Richland County dealers. I guess a lot of the Columbia crowd will drive 100 miles so they don't have to eat the garbage the folks in the Midlands call BBQ.

bullshite

First of all, it was and always will be Bessinger’s. There is no discussion on that. None. Never has been and never will be.

Secondly, Scott’s busiest and most known location is in downtown Charleston where he overcharges naive Yankees for bbq sammich that would go for a quarter of the price elsewhere.

Thirdly, the best bbq joint currently in any state that has Carolina in its name is Sweatman’s. Again, there is no argument or discussion on the matter otherwise.

Finally, only queers and Taters eat that vinegar swill, so which one are?

Anybody can cook a Boston butt. Almost no one can cook a brisket” - Texas posters

“Y’all tried mayo BBQ” - Alabama posters

“Wait y’all don’t use mustard or vinegar?” - Carolina posters

“KETCHUP!” - Missouri posters

“WTF is BBQ” - Louisiana posters

Y'all don't use worcestershire and vinegar?? - Kentucky
Also Pork is King along with hickory to smoke with.

We southerners smoke meat (bbq), Yankees think bbq is doing chicken, steaks or burgers on the grill......We just call that grillin.

Here's the deal all Southern states have good BBQ, some of of use vinegar base, some tomato base, some mustard, some white sauce (of which I do like Bob Gibson white sauce on my bbq yardbird). Most of us are pork and chicken but brisket is good too.....as is mutton and venison. If you smoke most meat, it's almost always going to be good

This is true.

One of the best BBQ sandwiches in Alabama is from a hole in the wall on 82 near Billingsley. I drove past it for years without stopping. Finally did about 20 years ago and have been going back since.

Beef - Texas style
Chicken - I prefer Memphis style

White bbq sauce is an abomination and is rivaled in terribleness only by continental breakfast white gravy. It’s not Barbeque, it redneck dipping sauce and it’s disgusting.

Sweatman's is garbage. Mustard based BBQ is garbage. Pepper vinegar is king in this part of the state. And I don't go to Scott's in Charleston. I go to the one in Hemingway, which has zero Yankees and is almost 80% black customers in one of the poorest places in the state. People drive from miles around to eat there.

I've never heard it called this but it's pretty accurate.
