Wrong, Mitch Barnhardt wasn't going to fire him, his buyout was way to high. Plus he broke his contract by speaking to Arkansas without informing the AD Barnhardt, which in turn allowed him to be terminated and not ha e to pay his buyout. This backfired horribly on Cal.
He was thinking he would use the offer of another school that AD Barnhardt and the AA would build him a new practice facility and other things. Cal was pissed because he felt the football program was getting more $$$$, new training center and stadium renovation among other things, even though the bball program already had top flight facilities.
Barnhardt would not have fired him had he not talked with Arkansas without notifying and asking Barnhardt permission to do that. It worked out for us and it worked out for y'all too. We needed a fresh start and he did too, Cal had lost the fanbase but he is so arrogant he didn't believe that, yes there was a small % of the fans that loved and wanted him but the majority were ready for him to move on.

All Cal truly cares about are his ego and getting players to the NBA, it's one of the things that turned UK fans against him when he said I'm not here to win titles, I'm here to get these players to the ThugBA. No Coach, you're paid $10m/yr to win Championships, players going into the NBA, will follow. Then last year he made the comment that the SEC tournament isn't a big deal.....that really was his end as the fans really turned on him.
A lot of fans spend a ton of money to spend 4-5 nights in Nashvegas, food/beverages, ticket books or single game tics, etc., etc.. It's an immense deal to the fans, especially since many probably save a few months in order to go. Fans were fed up with him,especially getting all these 5*s are not making it past 1st round of SEC or past 1st round of NCAA tournament. It was past time for change....for UK and Cal.

I don't hate Bama, fact of the matter is I'm a Bama fan....yes I'm a UK fan but only because my wife went to UK. Been a Bama football fan most of my 66 yrs.. I'm pissed they lost....especially to a little 10 team, I'm not a fan of Deboer and thought he was the wrong hire, not who I was hoping Byrne would hire. And in my opinion he isn't cut out for the high pressure job which is Alabama Football, he's not a disciplinarian and it shows in the teams undisciplined play and actions on the field. It's a stark contrast from Saban to Deboer.
I pray I'm wrong and will gladly eat some fried crow if it works out that he fields championship caliber teams...I truly hope that's the case, but I just don't see it and many other Bama fans don't either. Tell me his teams are well prepared.......were they prepared against Vandy, UT, Oklahoma??? Were they prepared against Michigan? There's only one game where they looked truly prepared and that was against the UGA. Milroe was a bit of a liability too...especially when he's off, but the O line wasn't exactly lighting the world on fire. We'll see what Deboer does next season......if he doesn't win at least 10 regular season games then in my opinion thats more regression. Again, I hope I'm very wrong and may very well be, but it's my privilege to express my opinion just as it is yours sir.
