"Lowball" Car Scam
Posted by RealDawg on 8/5/26 at 2:34 pm
JUST FYI
Buddy of mine selling his 200k mileage truck got hit by these scammers from TN last week.
The way it works is the sabotage your car in some way then act all dramatic and hope you take a low ball offer.
In his case, a test drive was scheduled early in the morning. Two guys came to look. One distracted his attention to inside the car and the other did something in the engine. When they went to drive it started overheating (which it had not been doing).
They pulled off the side of the road and gave him a lowball offer saying it was now going to have to be towed and repaired. Buddy (also not the sharpest tool) agreed.
A day later he got a call from some local TN police that these folks got arrested and that his truck was impounded and after "x" days could come get his truck (which he did). Apparently they had a record they had done this to at least 30 people.
In the end, he kept the lowball money and the "indians" as he described them had left a bucket of change in the front seat. Had to pay the impound fee.
Just FYI for those selling older vehicles. People suck.

Do we have a kicker?
If not, they all worry me other than the first couple.

They can easily shoot their web 20 feet. I have them spanning my 30 foot driveway.
You can take the web and wrap it around your finger like a nylon string. It doesn’t snap.

Went to the site you linked. Looks like they are only in Georgia for now. What damage do they cause? Looks big enough to prey on birds.
So far, they’ve really just been a nuisance. You literally have to walk in woods with a stick in front of your face for three months. They have at least doubled each year for the last three years.

Looks kinda like the common Golden Orb Weaver, just a bit larger
Two years ago thought it was those or the banana spider. Each year the volume has increased exponentially. They get too big for the predators they have.
Not my hand bro. I use the sun for time of day.
They are harmless sure. That doesn’t mean you want them all over you every time you walk down a trail. It’s the volume that is alarming in such short window.

Went from zero of these 3 years ago to thousands now. Every shrub, tree and power line has them. Had to add spider sticks to front of all the SXS. Can’t walk in the woods anymore without a stick in front of you.

Zero point in having season tickets anymore.
Paying $3000 a home game, half of which are cupcakes and I barely know who’s on the team anymore. Good games end up being on neutral sites.

Mine is OFF. Nobody needs that noise.
Turn it to max dry time and leave. Will be dry when you come back.
If I am wondering if it is dry yet, I open the door.
