Interesting idea to take in that kind of debt in this climate of college athletics. The rendering looks awesome though.
My thoughts exactly. When Nebraska released their renovation plans, it was kind of the same. You just don't see the big capital projects anymore like you did even just a few years ago. Most places are going with PPP style funding.

Imagine what $1.45B could do for NIL.
It looks amazing, but that price tag is ridiculous.

Still probably $1B short in today’s dollars of what other schools have been spending on their stadiums for the past 30 years.

This is the single biggest waste of money of all time
1 billion goes a long way for paying to win national titles
Miami just leases a stadium and bankrolls nil they are about to go on a 2 decade long playoff run

Maybe I'm out of touch with new stadium construction but $1.5B seems like it would buy you a whole new one
I think they built Mercedes Benz stadium in ATL for that, granted that was 10 years ago

the math still isn't mathing for me. What kind of "overhaul" costs $1.45B?
As the caw has been saying for years this is all a slush fund scheme to line the pockets of the UAA and Bull Gator boosters
Original proposed estimate was announced $400 million, but the plan was always 1.5 billion like any politician or beaurocrat they just lie to you and point till they can get a clear breakaway to get away with press clipping outrage
They couldn't say that will Billy Napier as the coach, they purposely waited for Sumrall to get momentum like the monster recruiting class he is building to dump the billion dollar mess on u
If Florida starts out 3-3 this year suddenly they'll revert back to controlling the narrative but are hoping he can get to Georgia at 6-1/5-2 and not get ppl pissed off by this blatant heist

Reading between the lines on the renovation site it looks like there are structural issues they have to address like what happened at Neyland where a 100 year old stadium had deferred maintenance and the facility was in decline.
For $1.5B thats a total rebuild and their expectations for what they get as a result should be very, very high.
Zero excuse for a university with their traditions and that bill not to have a top 5 stadium when this is done.

It was thrown around. At some point the stadium either needed a massive renovation or build new. The appetite wasn't there to build, so they went this route.
Personally, I am just happy it looks like The Swamp still. In so many of these things they start ripping into the stands to build lounges and big club areas. There's no cutting capacity. Fans are still right next to the field. It is far better than I was anticipating, so that is at least a win for me.

You can finance construction but can you finance the NIL payroll? I suppose they could throw the construction interest they pay toward NIL but I assume they’ve factored that into planned ticket price increases that would cover the renovation plus add more to the bank account, in theory. But at some point the fans run out of money.

Penn State is rebuilding their west side, and doing some other infrastructure work, that will cost $700 million.
If Florida is going to strip everything down to the supports underneath the existing stadium to rebuild, and add premium seating around the top of the south and east stands, I could see it costing $1.5B, the way construction prices have gone up.
