Do you really believe that the vast majority of 5* high school recruits, or top portal players care about Florida's achievements under Spurrier? Only us old dorks who love college football care about that. Players will go play where they get paid the most and have the best opportunities. To that point, last year Ole Miss and Mizzou ranked #3 and #9 respectively in the transfer portal rankings. Florida was #27. You claim "more NIL opportunity" at Florida, but that simply hasn't proven to be the case so far.

No I don't think they know or care about his individual accomplishments. But UF is a much higher profile job because of them. And because of Meyer and others that contributed to UF being a championship caliber program. It's a significantly bigger brand.

There's nothing wrong with Ole Miss or Missouri. But the flagship school with championship pedigree in the 3rd most populous state is going to offer far more opportunities for players to take advantage of their NIL. It's just the way it is.

Why is Florida the better job? Your answer shouldn't include anything about the accomplishments of Steve Spurrier. Today's recruits weren't alive for that.

Can't just dismiss those accomplishments because they contribute to UF being a much more high profile position. One of the biggest brands in college sports. That means more media coverage. More NIL opportunity. Even with down periods of late in football, the logo still carries weight and it will get you in more doors.

Kiffin and Drink are both paid $9mil. Napier was at $7.3.

UF can pay at the top of the market value if it needs to. UF also shouldn't overpay coaches for the sake of appearances. If Napier deserved to make more money, he would have.

He could have said to hell with it snd let assistants do all the work

Hell, if he trusted assistants there's a good chance he never loses the job. His stubbornness and unwillingness to self reflect was his downfall. All everyone asked was for him to give up play calling. Never did it, and it cost him.

I doubt they're bankrupt, but they will continue to fall further behind financially as long as they aren't in the SEC or Big 10. Just fine in my book

Is that true? That is insane. Damn.

Think it is against a ranked opponent, not any SEC game.

Originally he did, but it looks like those numbers have been revised upward. That's good news.

Yeah - I guess on this part then at least he listened. Anything less than 80K would have caused riots. Falling back in the mid-80's isn't too bad. And honestly, with added structure to the south and east could actually make the stadium even louder.

New capacity will be about 75k according to Stricklin.

The Swamp definitely needs a facelift. It has looked really dumpy for a while now.

I don't remember Stricklin saying seating capacity would drop that far, just said there likely would be some.

Even so, these documents only show a reduction of 4200 seats. So a drop from 88.5K to somewhere in the 84-85K range once finished.

Picture is crap, doesn't show the promised chairbacks in the lower bowl.

This is just a leaked image from the top sheet of some internal documents floating around admin.

They're releasing the full renderings soon.

Looking at the rendering some cosmetic touch ups, but $400 million worth?

Considering all the possible ways they could have screwed this up, I can't complain.

Improved seating options with offset capacity reduction by adding a new structure above the students. Better audio/visual. Improved concourses. All without really changing the uniqueness of the bowl structure?

If they are going to do it anyway, this is among the better possible scenarios.

The crazy thing is UF has had like 20 straight sellouts with freaking Napier as a head coach and in the worst period for Gator football since the 1940's. Many schools can cut capacity, but UF really isn't one that should.

The stadium already right sized, so they couldn't reduce by too much.

It is impressive that despite the crap on the field, actual ticket sales have remained incredibly strong.
quote:

what's capacity?

84-85K. Official capacity is around 89K now.
Sounds like it is only around 4000 lost seats when all is said and done. So nothing crazy, certainly not as bad as many feared.
quote:

That looks nice. Actually top notch. I heard there will also be reduced capacity though.

A little to put in chairbacks, but slightly offset by adding seating elsewhere. Like up above the east side, some more in the south end zone.
A look at the renovated Florida Field leaked out of the athletic building. Certainly some interesting timing

If Napier is allowed to finish the season after being fired Sunday it's worse than if he survived to GA and was just outright fired after that. He is probably the worst play caller in college football. We need to let someone else close the season out.

Yeah, I don't see this like a Zook. For all his faults, never doubted Zook's passion for UF or his players. Not to mention a much shorter tenure.

It's time to turn the page on Napier, when the call is made he needs to be gone.

Golden and Sully really shouldering the weight of this trio

A decent football hire might just catapult it to the top.

To think not that long ago our 3 were Meyer, Donovan and Sully. We've been pretty damn fortunate.

Pretty disrespectful to Napier to float this if it's true.

He makes $7.5M a year and about to collect another $21M from us. I'd take some hurt feelings for that kind of payday.

Saw Spurrier a few weeks ago - was struggling to get around. I think he's enjoying his time as ambassador and just being around Gainesville & his restaurant. Doubt he'd want to jump into this mess.
