UF just announced massive overhaul of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Increased in scope by $1B since first proposed.

That is ridiculous. We are a women's cross country school.

I read the article you linked to and the math still isn't mathing for me. What kind of "overhaul" costs $1.45B? Why not just build a new stadium at that point?

Damn, that’s crazy money. Looks like the boosters finally woke up

Looks kind of like Death Valley from that angle

Interesting idea to take in that kind of debt in this climate of college athletics. The rendering looks awesome though.

There was talk about building new but ultimately they didn't want to abandon the location.

That's a damn nice kitchen. Must've gone with the fancy garbage disposal.

my thoughts exactly. 1.45 billion would build a really nice brand new stadium

my first thought. It seems like if you've already got a pretty sound infrastructure with facilities, which pretty much any of the top 25 programs do, youd' want to throw as much extra cash as you have into next year's roster.
UF could play in a $10B stadium for that matter but they're still going to lose out on recruits if texas or miami is going to keep doubling the going rate.

I tried to post an article not behind some kind of a paywall, didn't realize the figure wasn't there. That is what they are getting approved by the BOT today.
I'll update the link.

Well we seem to be doing OK in recruiting and we spent the money to keep a lot of good players we thought were going to be pilfered by schools with supposedly deeper pockets, but it didn't happen. We also spent a lot of money keeping our basketball players this off season, so maybe we are going to finally start spending some money.

The extra billion is for the kitchen.
