Was Pearl still under a show cause when the FBI sting happened and Barn had to fire Person?

No, Pearl's show cause ended in August of 2014 I believe.

As a side note, Person got a 10 year show cause out of it though

Seriously if it is Grantham we should have just kept fricking Pete. At least Pete was a great recruiter and Young. Grantham is what he is.

If it's Grantham, Byrne and the board need to seriously consider blocking the hire. It will be the clearest sign of decline yet.

Amazes me that we have fans that think they know more about defensive coordinators than Nick Saban does. Not pinpointing you in particular because I know it applies to a large portion of our fanbase. I’d be for the Grantham hire if it gets rid of these “fans.”

You think getting a bad DC will get rid of some fans? Seriously? You’d trade not having to read some random person’s post for having a DC that is worse than the last one?

Everyone has seen Grantham in action at multiple SEC programs. There's no reason to believe things would be any different if he ended up here. It's simply an unjustifiable hire.

During the show cause there are restrictions on recruiting and other things. Would you really want your co D guy not able to go out and recruit.

I’m intimately familiar with it. Pruitt is worth it. He’s one of the best play calling DCs in the NCAA. He always dials up blitzes at the right time. If we had him the last 2 years we would’ve won 3 in a row instead of UGA winning the last 2.

I have a hard time believing Grantham would be the pick., I think a lot of other choices would have to fall through first. Coach is keeping this hire close to the vest. Here’s hoping we can get someone who will bring back that aggressive nature to our defense.

As long as I live, I don’t think I’ll ever shake my head more than from the comment at Tennessee that our defensive players had “anxiety.” Reggie Ragland said it best about this comment: “We don’t have anxiety; we cause anxiety.”

if we're gonna get back to an aggressive defense, then we gotta get back to real tackling. get rid of his cinderella slow dance'em to the ground crap. i'm tired of watching a rb or wr drag our defenders an extra 3, 4 or more yards and getting a first down when they should've been stopped and forced to punt.

Part of that is the desire to create a turnover - strip. But I know what you are saying

Not necessarily, especially because he’s clearly a fallback option. They can hire him anytime because he’s not going anywhere, Saban will exhaust his other options first.

The longer this thing drags out the more I believe Pruitt is the guy. I think maybe Saban has placed most of his eggs in that basket.

I think, reading the tea leaves, we want Pruitt to be the guy but we're just waiting (hoping) for a quick NCAA decision.

I feel like Grantham is the back up to our back up plans or, at worst, is just keeping the seat warm until Pruitt steps in.

Now that we're getting a little bit of smoke regarding the OC position, maybe we'll start hearing more about DC but it is pretty telling Pruitt's name is still being brought up at this point in the process.

Thats what I think too. If we hire Grantham it will be temporary, 1 season at most, until Pruitt gets cleared to take over.

It is a very real possibility that I am attempting to will JP into existence. Or maybe will Grantham out.
