Lane Kiffin is going to make a very, very good head coach one day.

I'm doubtful that Gus leaves, for a few reasons. One, the hotseat talk seems to have died down. Two, as others have said, he has built a good and fairly deep roster, and Arkansas is no recruiting cakewalk. Three, and perhaps most importantly, he doesn't seem to particularly enjoy hiring assistant coaches. You could tell that when he had to hire three complete defense staffs over the course of four years, he was visibly annoyed. He'd rather be out recruiting players than coaches. I don't think he goes anywhere unless he is convinced he can build his dream team, and I believe that would require taking a bunch of his current staff with him. Is Tim Horton the only person still on staff who is from Arkansas? And even he has been hunting a new job (promotion) for some time. Kevin Steele has made it known that he wants to retire in Alabama. I just don't know who on our staff would go with him -- and considering the coaching competition this year, where he'd find the assistants to replace those who didn't. You can forget Lashlee, his next stop will be as a head coach.

Gus aint leaving for Arky on his own accord. AU would have to fire him and that ain't happening after beating UGA by 20+.

Besides, Gus knows he would have a tougher row to hoe over there. I'm not sure "going home" means THAT much to him.

Hypothetical: If Gus goes home, I would be okay with Champ.

If he kept Chip Lindsey and ditched Roper. And I'd hate to see Steele go, as Champ almost certainly replaces him with T Rob. Not that I think our D would get worse, but I'd just hate it for Steele who doesn't deserve to be "cut."

This is the dumbest damn thread I’ve ever read.

Gus isn’t going anywhere and hypothetical of a replacement that isn’t a HC to begin with is just dumb. Damn our fan base is either full of alters or just completely head in sand.

Muschamp? WTF? Gus leaving for Arkansas? WTF

You guys seriously need some sense. Go start a thread about Saban going back to Mich St. and replacing him with Kirby

Dumb or not, the story is starting to get some legs, to the point where Gus might have to nip it in the bud in the coming days. Hopefully he addresses it sooner than later, because we certainly don't need any distractions, fact or fiction, while preparing for the IB...

Yeah it has definitely been gaining traction which could just be Sexton or Bams like F'Baum but it has been a real possibility since LSU. Who knows how many relationships were fractured permanently behind the scenes after that debacle.

Just don't shoot the messenger. Way too many people got their feelings hurt about this thread yesterday.

You're not a messenger. A messenger is someone who brings facts. You brought a pot of shite and stirred it up. Yeah, Finebaum mentioned it, but that's really about it. God speed if he wants Arkansas, that's not an easy gig.

The Arky job is a lose/lose situation right now. They are fricked from a recruiting standpoint due to being in a geographical no-man's land and the fact that their current roster is complete dogshit. A Bobby Petrino type coach is the best they'll ever do. I could see Gus leaving for UF before going back home to Arky.

If he decided to bolt, I would not blame him. It would not be as good of a job and he probably would not be as successful but he would probably be more appreciated.

Plus he would be back home. I dont know the man so I can not say how important that is to him...

It would serve the fans right who were so ready to send him packing.

I trust that we would be just fine if he left but I also agree with you that it would suck for a few years if we started completely over with a WHOLE NEW staff.

Gus is very polarizing in Arkansas. I think they'd turn on him faster than Auburn

I keep hearing his introverted / lack of personality has rubbed Auburn boosters wrong, which may just be good for us in the short term because we went on a complete tear in '04 right after Tubs pissed off the boosters. Ironic...

I'm liking our Natty chances more and more

Half of the state of Arkansas would be extremely against the man the minute he stepped on campus.

I think when Gus is loosened up, aka "Fun Gus", he is funny / likeable. Still awkward, but in "that awkward friend you have" way

I think the kids like him but some admins and boosters do not. LSU game had them fuming just like it did us fans. We will see how torn things really are behind the scenes, but in the meantime he can be a hero next Sat. and that's all I care about. I really think if we win the IB, we go all the way.

IMO if Gus leaves because the pressure to win here is to high...then he needs to go.

If you look at what is coming back next season there are a scant few coaches who's nuts have dropped that would willing abandon that for a pasture without irrigation.

Gus may have been rubbed the wrong way by boosters and admin, but the admin is changing and the boosters are the same everywhere. I suspect this is Sexton recognizing with an AD in turmoil holding onto the head Football coach would be paramount.
