Welp looks like the distraction for the IB will be Gus to Arky. All Finebaum can talk about for first 30min is Gus is gone. At least this means they dont have shite on cheating allegations against us.

This is being discussed?

This has Jimmy Sexton written all over it. I say the new AD needs to hold fast and not give any ridiculous salary increases. Gus has, at a minimum, got to win the SEC before I would be comfortable giving him a raise.

Just a tad ridiculous, IMO.....especially with what is going on on the other side of the State. It is standard to give some form of raise every few seasons...........unless you are trying to get rid of your HC.

I normally don't listen to Finebaum, but I tuned in today to hear some playoff talk...but so far I've heard little else but "Gus to Arky?" chatter.

I will say it -- I like Gus as coach at Auburn. I think his potential is so much greater than anyone out there right now. We need some stability. We cant keep changing coaches. There is no homerun hire available.
Yeah, yeah -- tell me all of his mistakes because none of you have ever made any...

Yep Fbaum says Gus would bolt if offered and a writter from Little Rock thinks Gus is first choice for some high powered boosters. Newspaper guy said he was not so sure Gus would take it. Said AU is a much better job, offcourse Fbaum acts like they are about the same.

Sounds like Sexton, for sure. I think JJ leaving is more than enough of an incentive for Gus to stick around (if he's successful enough to remain employed).

A quick check in to the Arky board indicates the fans arent to hot for Ole Gustav

I wouldn't use the Arkansas board here as the baseline for what their fan base thinks. When I lived up there, the vast majority I met would be thrilled with him

I would be mad if Gus left. For all of his stupidity over the years, he well may be hitting his stride right now. He has brought a top 10 defense to Auburn and is averaging 40 points a game in SEC play this year. He has now had very successful offense with a once in a generation talent, an athlete turned QB, and a more standard pocket passer. Plus he recruits consistently top 10, with the opportunity top jump top 5 after great seasons.

I think he would be stupid to leave, and it would take awhile for him to rebuild Arkansas, but I know I wouldn't look forward to facing him. No guarantee Auburn could find somebody better.

Well if he leaves, good luck, hell we won a Natty with Gene fricking Chizik, no doubt we would bounce right back.

I just think this Gus to Arky talk is the normal course of action with Bert about to be fired ,Gus being from Arky and coaching there as an OC. Its only natural. I just think its doubtful he leaves unless he truly doesn't like it here. So to me this is a waste of time to talk about until the season is over.

Exactly, just a distraction that the Media, especially in Alabama will run with from now until the Iron Bowl, which is why Fbaum, Sabans number one media plant was parroting the shite out of it.

So it may be the gumps pushing this? You know they are worried whenever they start distractions not long before the IB.

Absolutely because Auburn has been in the National Championship picture plenty lately without Gus on our staff

I swear I think some of you people are either completely clueless or actually believe some of the BS you type on here

Gus leaving Auburn would be a very bad thing. Firing Gus would be a very bad thing. We basically would start over from ground zero.

So Gus Malzhan is the lynch pin that makes AU football great? Hell we hired Terry Bowden after Dye brought us back from the dead and were damn good to decent til he fricked up 5 years later.

Not if a guy like Chad Morris was brought in and Kevin Steele and his defensive staff was retained.

I have no idea what will happen in the future. Just giving my 2 cents.

Please someone enlighten me with the infatuation with Muschamp as a head coach. Failure at Florida with no offense.

I'm not saying Muschamp should be option #1, but you can't grade his performance in a vacuum without context. His mistakes scream inexperienced HC who was defensive minded, not permanently incapable of correction problems

Keep in mind this wasn't Kirby Smart whose inherited/recruited talent covers his mistakes (e.g Jim Chaney hire). Muschamp inherited a garbage UF offense from Meyer and kicked off most of the limited talent Urban passed on

quote:

Nothing of note at South Carolina to this point in a terrible division

For inheriting a 3-9 team w/ only a walkon QB because Steve Spurrier stopped recruiting well befire retiring, Muschamp has done great

Yr1- Bowl appearance w/ 17YO QB because he inherited no one

Yr2- #2 in SECE, likely 8-4 regular season with only competitive road losses

This discussion is not new. PM released some insider notes about 3 weeks ago that said Gus wants out and would bolt given the opportunity. 3 weeks ago though Arkansas had Chad Morris as their primary target with Gus being a backup. I guess Arky's priorities changed after Gus put the beat down on the #1 team.
