Kentucky Erases 17-Point Deficit, Stuns South Carolina In Overtime

No. 24 Kentucky erased an early 17-point deficit and stunned South Carolina with a 35-34 overtime victory Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium.

The Gamecocks jumped out to a 17-0 lead before Kentucky began chipping away, eventually taking a 24-20 advantage late in the third quarter. South Carolina regained the lead in the fourth, but the Wildcats tied the game at 27-27 with a field goal to force overtime.

South Carolina struck first in overtime when LaNorris Sellers connected with Mazeo Bennett Brown for a touchdown and the extra point made it 34-27.

Kentucky answered with Kenny Minchey finding Hunter Boyer for a 6-yard touchdown. Instead of kicking the extra point to extend the game, the Wildcats went for the win.

Minchey connected with Willie Rodriguez on the two-point conversion to give Kentucky the 35-34 victory.

Minchey finished with 272 passing yards and three touchdowns, while Kenny Darby caught 12 passes for 96 yards and a score. Sellers threw for 226 yards and two touchdowns while adding 147 yards on the ground.

The comeback was the largest road comeback in Kentucky program history as the Wildcats improved to 4-1 on the season.

Kentucky will host LSU next Saturday in Lexington.
