Either this is happening or Sexton has gone to new lows. Cause I saw a few rumors that Arky would hire Gus without an AD and let him choose the AD.
Here is what they would have to pay us besides BB and JL buyouts

Reviewing his contract, Malzahn would owe $500k/year ($1.5M thru 2020) AND for his assistants contracts not retained by Auburn or not hired with him. 1st review shows AU Assistants are currently paid ~$4.3M/year total with 2-3 yr contracts. DC Steele $1.1M/yr- 3 yrs.

Per footballscoop
quote:
Malzahn is currently under contract three more seasons at an annual salary just under $5 million. His buyout should he choose to leave is extremely manageable.
quote:
And, yes, there is chatter among coaches that Malzahn may leave Auburn. Should Auburn lose to Alabama Saturday, there is growing buzz within the profession that Gus might “reset his clock” by taking the Arkansas job. Arkansas closes out their season Friday vs Missouri, following which it is widely expected the University will let Bret Bielema go. The logic among coaches we’ve spoken states that Gus would be to give himself a fresh 5-year deal with a total contract value likely in the $30 million range (and quite possibly larger)… and that’s before incentives. The Arkansas fan base is more tame than Auburn’s, there is no 365-day-a-year comparison with Alabama, they would be welcoming him back to a state where he has had great success, and he would have a voice in choosing Jeff Long’s replacement as athletics director.
quote:
Many in the profession view this is a no-brainer move for him.
quote:
We’re told that Auburn is doing some diligence, preparing for the possibility of Malzahn’s departure, and multiple sources in the profession have relayed that Auburn seems to kicking the tires on Bobby Petrino as a backup plan. Would Bobby Petrino be willing to make a move after his guy, Tom Jurich just got shown the door? Do we really have to answer that question? For those wondering, Tom Jurich being let go had the effect of reducing Bobby’s buyout from $8.5 million to $4.25 million. Healthy; but not insurmountable for an SEC heavyweight. This isn’t to say that Petrino is locked in as the next man up should Gus leave; but it is interesting to hear from sources in the profession that Auburn is already making inquiries.

Impeccable sourcing.
All we need now is the janitor's second cousin's input.

It was well known that Petrino hated Jay Jacobs. With Jay out of the way, we'll see what happens.

what are your feelings on rush probst and bill clark

Excellent high school coaches at Hoover and Prattville respectively. Clark hasn't played anyone with a pulse and I was quite shocked actually at how they never even showed up in the Swamp last Sat.

Honestly, I think I'd be content on letting Steele coach 2018 on an interim basis. Gives a whole year under new AD to search and negotiate with hires while avoiding the rat race of coaching hires this year, particularly since we'd be behind everyone else since this would be somewhat of a "shock". Im loving the stability with our program right now and I really don't what to overhaul it while we are trending in the right direction.

Kind of how I felt reading it. Honestly Malzahn is one of the most tight lipped, secretive human beings in the world. Have a hard time thinking anyone really has a feel for what he's thinking. My bet is a lot of this stuff coming is coming from Arkansas boosters who want to bring Gus home. It might happen but I would be surprised unless he gets run out of the stadium this Saturday

Yea, coming from the coach who makes non-essential staff/trainers/media turn around when we work on certain plays in practice, if info is leaking out, I doubt it is all that credible.
I have no doubt Arky has put out feelers and I'm sure Gus hasn't turned them down, but I doubt much of any info out there right now is based on any real concrete sources.

This will remain headline news until Gus specifically shoots it down. Whether he means it or not, he has the ability to pretty much kill the rumor and doesn't. Our idiot coach is letting a rumor run rampant during Iron Bowl week. Everybody wants to blame external factors for these rumors, but Sexton and Malzahn are pretty much just letting them ride for the sake of his contract negotiations.

You’re an obvious alter. Stop posting.

I believe it has more to do with getting AU primed for an extension and raise.

Yeah, I'm an alter... You clowns have your head so far up Malzahn's arse that you can't see that our coach and his agent are stoking this fire. I really do hope JJ stands his ground in negotiations and forces this clown to walk. If he goes to Arkansas it will be career suicide.

I believe Malzahn has handled it well and brushed it aside without bringing any attention on his comments. Anything he says other than simply brushing it aside like he has could cause an unnecessary circus. If you look outside nobody in the media is raising flag with how he's handled these questions
