I’m sure it’s going great for you over there. If your goal is to let this story calm down and to let the judicial process work instead of having this tried in the court public opinion (which should be the goal for all of us) what you are doing is basically the opposite of that.
If, on the other hand, your goal is to feed the fire of dragging Miller Oats and Alabama through the mud for something for which they have no culpability then you are nailing it.

But, but the entire office went to the UA law school.
Those insane posters over there are contacting the Tuscaloosa DA’s office.

This exactly.

I initially tried to discuss it over there. Found out quickly it was pointless. I haven’t been over there since and won’t go for awhile. No one will listen to facts. It’s like sharks in the water.

This right here!
I haven’t clicked on one article or seen one segment on TV about it. The only place I have seen any information about Miller has been in this thread

I think the best course at this point is just to let the media storm blow over, which it will eventually. It's clear Miller and Bradley made some very poor decisions that night that ultimately not only put them in proximity to a murder, but led one of them to (unknowingly as it may be) bring the murder weapon to the scene. Fortunately for them, none of those decisions were illegal and, unlike Miles, they were forthcoming with detectives.
The reality is nothing short of Oats' resignation and Miller's expulsion will satisfy the talking heads. Thanks to a very clickbait-y headline that few people actually read past, they have determined that Miller grabbed his own gun, used his car to intentionally block in the victim cartel-style, and handed it to the shooter while encouraging him to pull the trigger.
Should Miller and Bradley have been suspended for being idiots? Maybe, but would any length suspension satisfy the people now convinced they're both stone-cold murderers only avoiding charges because Nate Oats controls the DA? Clearly no, and trying to satisfy those people now with a post hoc suspension is a fool's errand.
Lay low, take ownership of Oats' comments (which they've already walked back), and simply state that poor decisions were made by multiple parties that night, but the parties ultimately involved in the initial altercation as well as the decision to escalate that altercation were both charged and immediately disassociated with UA and the basketball program.

my friend told me he was in danger when I was 19 or 20 years old in college I would have brought him his weapon.
I don't know the situation and the last thing I would want is feeling guilt that I didn't help him and something bad happened.
It was literally a bad situation Miller was forced into. He has no fault here. It wasn't like it was his gun, he handed it to the shooter or he instructed any of this.
That's bullshite. Why would you potentially escalate it to that level if you believe someone is truly in danger without calling the cops, coach, other players, staff etc while en route.
The biggest problem is people are so quick to result to guns vs "looking bad" for walking away or getting someone to intervene and deescalate

Miles is an idiot and is going to get what's coming to him. But, I seriously doubt Miller knew what he was driving back to. He probably thought Miles was being his usual goofy self and the text might have been the only way he knew he had a gun in his car. For all we know, he might have been like, "shite, that moron left his gun in my car" and was mainly going back to get it back to him. All I know is the police seem to be very satisfied with his version of his involvement. It's possible he should have seen the red flags, but on the other hand, we don't really know the extent of Miles' and Miller's exchange or Miller's thought process.

I think at this point, Oates and Miller holding a press conference and laying out what they’re allowed to lay out would be a good idea. Don’t let the media be the only voice on the subject.

Have to disagree there. Miller shouldn't say anything and Oates has already given two statements on the matter. At this point would just be more for the media to spin and keep this (non) story going.

I get what you’re saying, but that’s only true if it’s an actual non-story. The media won’t let this go. And silence on the matter will just let the fire continue.

I don’t see how this isn’t a major distraction going forward.
I don’t really have an opinion on whether Oats should or shouldn’t punish Miller, because I don’t know what they know nor am I in their position. I’m an inconsequential fan.

They definitely shouldn’t cave. It’s admitting that they’ve somehow handled this wrong previously. There’s nothing to be gained by retroactively punishing.

That would be crazy to argue but a few things. They aren't sitting around reading message boards all day which is a positive. And getting SCar, a team not doing very well, on the road is probably a good thing as well.
But yes sir, I hear you!

quote:I agree with much of what you are saying as there is truth to the fact that the populace has been dumbed down. But I think there are two things to consider when thinking of this subject.
I used to blame the media, and I still do, but I've come to think that it's the people consuming that media that are REALLY to blame. The average person's reading and reasoning abilities are on about a 5th grade level, and that isn't hyperbole. We're only grabbed by sensationalist nonsense because our ability to interpret and understand nuance is nonexistent. Nobody wants to think for more than 3 seconds and we all have to be spoon fed. The results are we're spoon fed junk food that tastes good and we quickly spit out any vegetables like the babies we are.
People only support garbage media, so that's what is produced.
Another reason that people consume and digest some of the garbage produced by the media is that they desperately want to believe it. Alabama is a very rich target for anything negative. Jealousy, contempt for Alabama and ignorance makes them a risk-free target. Is there any sympathy or desire for the truth where Alabama is concerned? NO. Many salivate at the prospect of dirt and if the media swings and misses, especially in regard to Alabama and a few others I guess - who cares?
As far as the media goes: They are provided for in the constitution. They are responsible as a watchdog and "guardians of the truth". Therefore, while entitled to profit, they are not to consider it in their reporting. I.e., just because the populace wants garbage doesn't mean they are entitled to produce it, certainly not at the expense of truth.

They’ve known about all of this from the beginning. It might be a distraction for you, but it isn’t for them.
