The only thing that has been saving me from melting that we missed out on Coawrd was getting Rylan….if we are missing on both it’s time to worry. We don’t have anybody who can play the 3.
Bethea, Bristow, Mallette, Allen, and Jemison can all play on the wing as a 3. They're all just as big or bigger than Griffen. I wouldn't mind Griffen being at Bama, but a 6'5" shooting guard (not a lead guard) who can sometimes play the 3 is not a need at this point, especially if Philon comes back.

Nice pickup. Will be a project but a lot of upside. Hopefully he sticks around more than a year.
I don't think we would take someone out of the portal unless we thought they could contribute immediately. Everyone is a one-and-done now.

So getting a former top 10 player, a player that Kentucky wanted and two players of the year in their conference is disappointing?
It's not a bad haul on its own, but in the context of our losses it's pretty underwhelming, unless we're somehow able to get Philon back.

Been a disappointing portal season so far. I hesitate to complain too much, though, since I refuse to donate beyond my season ticket purchase. Oats will have us at least somewhat competitive regardless of the roster composition.

Looks like Coward is Duke bound. Sucks but we're not going to win that battle very often.

A&M's got a dude who's -9 through 17, goodness.

Two fold with Coward. Have to beat out Duke and then hope his draft feedback isn’t good so that he actually makes it to campus
The Duke hill alone is probably too steep to climb, especially if they're making him a priority.

Glad I'm not a major college basketball coach.

That's a roster full of highly paid guys that will be tough to manage from a PT standpoint.

Does anyone know where Nick Sortor found this quote and where he "broke" this story?
It's from an article about anti-Trump/Israel protests on FSU's campus. LINK

The full quote:

quote:

Once the protesters reached the Integration Statue, Florida State University Police Department (FSUPD) officers stood on guard and groups of onlookers began to form.

“These people are usually pretty entertaining, usually not for good reasons,” Phoenix Ikner, a political science major, said. “I think it’s a little too late, he’s [Trump] already going to be inaugurated on Jan. 20 and there’s not really much you can do unless you outright revolt, and I don’t think anyone wants that.”

Looks like quite the opposite, based on the context of the quote. Not that it matters.
They might not be empty, but tickets will be much easier to come by. The only things setting apart college athletics from professional athletics are the pageantry and ties the fans and alumni have to their schools/athletes.

Schools are shifting away from marching bands and other student led entertainment to stadium DJs and LED light shows. Revenue sport athletes are basically cordoned off from the student population, and rarely stick around long enough to get a degree anyway. 15 or so years ago I was doing group projects with the starting QB and starting center in a random geology class; I can't imagine that happens much at all these days.

All that stuff is ultimately going to erode the base of support over time for these programs.

I think he's (or was before the injury) kind of borderline. He was a good enough ball handler to not be a liability against most teams, but he wasn't great either.
Maybe, but he's never really been asked to do that here, because we've had 2 or 3 guards with really good ability to penetrate and create both years he's been here (Sears, Estrada and Philon, Sears, Holloway). Looks like that won't be the case next year.

Yeah, really talking about "point guards" with Oats offense is a bit of a misnomer that leads to some confusion.

Oats uses the term "creators" when talks at length in press conferences. He simply means players that can beat their man or use screens to get into the lane consistently and hopefully make good "rim decisions".
This is true, the issue is that most of the guys who fit this bill are designated "point guards" or at least "lead guards". The exceptions are wings who can create (Brandon Miller, Herb Jones) and bigs who can create (very rare). But those are going to be tough to find, especially in the portal where we're competing against the NBA and teams with more cash.

I got coworkers claiming 10-15K steps and they barely want to get off their arse to get work done. Mostly with big pot bellies.
If gamifying activity gets sedentary people off their rumps for a bit, it's worth the step bragging. I wish people paid more attention to cardio zone minutes and recommendations, though.

If that’s what we are rolling with, I don’t think we will be very good.
We aren't going to be a 1 seed next year, but we'll still be plenty good. That's a solid veteran backcourt with a top 10 recruit. Frontcourt is thin but has a couple skilled 7 footers. I'd like to see us add a banger/lob threat like Pringle (not saying I want Pringle, just someone similar).

We will look much more like 2023-24 than 2024-25 and that's ok. Probably 4-8 seed depending on how the freshmen play. Hell, UConn was an 8 seed this year.

Like I said before, it would have been nice to know this in time to get in on Xaivian or another top lead guard.

Oats needs to pull something special I'm not seeing
Saw somewhere Wrightsell might play the 1, which gives us something like:

Holloway/Wrightsell
Bethea/Mallette/Hannah
Allen/Jemison
Bol Bowen
Sherrell/Williamson

If we don't end up with another lead guard, we may just try to find one more big body and cross our fingers with the freshmen. Jemison ought to be licking his chops.

At least there's plenty of time now to figure it out. Worst case was Philon maintaining eligibility and then pulling the rug out from under us in the summer.

In my opinion, as soon as you reduce your activity level, your body begins to fall apart.
This 100%. Because injuries take longer to heal as you age, people use them as an excuse to quit doing things (like playing basketball, lifting weights, moving furniture, etc.), which leaves them far more prone to other issues due to inactivity than it would if they had just powered through the recovery and kept doing what they were before.
