I'll never understand his aversion to using them to slow down a run and regroup

Unless you're going to change something defensively, what is the point, really?

And most of the time, a run is because the other team is hot. By the time a timeout is called, it's gotten to the point that it's probably about to fall back off. So, you're calling a timeout at the point when a regression to the mean is imminent.

I think Oats believes in math and the fact that it all evens out over the course of the game. Timeouts don't really affect math, unless you're actually going to change something.

worse than Oats at calling TOs during another teams runs.

I can remember a LOT of coaches wasting timeouts to try to stop runs to no avail. I'll guarantee you Oats has crunched the numbers and made a conscious decision on how he handles those situations.
Beating Clemson by 16, and everyone's bitching. What a time to be alive as a Bama basketball fan.

Bad compared to what we've been playing, yes.
When did Sherrell morph into Mutombo?

I think he has 4-5 blocks already.

There is a reason all 4 teams with a bye last year lost.

And that reason is 3 of the 4 played teams that were just better than they were and UGA shite the bed.

Give me the bye to heal up. Bama is a mash unit right now.
The passing game was worse though which *MAY* have been partially because of poor communication up front.
In today's era of NIL/transfer portal football, I'm not convinced LSU is THAT much better of a job. He's giving up a lot of leeway and good will at Ole Miss to go to a program that's equal parts tradition and psychotic dysfunction. And he's doing it at a time when the value of tradition is at an all-time low.

I have to start smoking a turkey at about 4am tomorrow. But, the 5 hours of sleep I've gotten the last 2 nights should carry me through Thanksgiving.

The 2 losses were obviously disappointing. But, going 2-2 through that stretch and looking capable of winning either of the games we lost, if we'd played a little better, is cause for optimism. I'd probably have been happy with these results, even if not satisfied, if you'd told me in October it would turn out this way.

Credit to Gonzaga for playing good defense.

Bama can't afford to not rebound well AND have a poor shooting performance. At least not against top teams. If Holloway shoots 4-10 from 3 (he shot 41.7% last year) instead of 2-10 and we shoot 70-75% from the line that's 8-10 points and it's a different game.

But, if you're going to give up a ton of offensive rebounds, you can expect to struggle on the nights when shots aren't falling. SOME of the rebounding struggles have to be related to us trying to run the moment the ball comes off the rim. We seem to be out of position a lot. Bristow is a rebounding machine. It would be nice if he could knock down shots.

Anyway, we missed a lot of shots. Even the bigs had layups rim out. And we gave up 3,000 offensive boards. Recipe for disaster against Gonzaga.

I wasn't on here last night, so I'm sure it's been said, but Bristow is the piece we were missing. It would be nice to also have Collins healthy, but adding Bristow as a 4 with Sherrell, or a small ball 5 with Bol at the 4 makes this team much better against the Pudues and Illinoiseses of the world.

It wasn't a perfect game, but it was very encouraging to see the toughness and fight.

Dennis Rodman proved it was a science.

But he didn't prove it in one game. And he wasn't a 5'10" point guard.

Sometimes that has as much to do with lucky bounces as anything else.
Tough game. Honestly, it's amazing it was close with the rebounding discrepancy.

Purdue is the kind of team that will always be difficult for Bama's style. But, I think they'll have a better chance later in the year, when the team has learned more about themselves, and when (hopefully) we get our injured/medical mystery big guys back.

Chicken has to pay the bills somehow.

How'd we look today?

Pretty solid. We had a good, but not great shooting game and beat a supposedly (probably slightly overrated) top 5 team on the road. They had no answer for our guards The front court did enough and the whole team was gritty

don't understand +/- at all. How was Bol Bowen -6?

Same way Williamson was +16. Stats lie sometimes.

Good. Saving the makes for the game while lulling St John's asleep. Excellent strategy.

was pleasantly surprised by Williamson.

He definitely looked better than early reports. I don't know how well he'll hold up against higher level bigs, but he's at least playable, and 5 fouls.
