He just died last year 95 years old. He was 57 the last time Georgia won a NC. Talk about pathetic.

We played in the national title game. 2017 season gets the nod.
In 2002, we beat a 9-3 FSU team with Chris Rix as a QB. In 2017, we beat a damn good Oklahoma squad with a Heisman winner and eventual #1 overall pick at QB.

Ah Nebraska. Another has been relic program that still has a more recent National Championship than you. It took you guys like 40 years to play a non conference road game outside of the South. When you don’t make any trips like that it isn’t shocking that people go. Playing Colorado, Oklahoma State, and Arizona State in road games can’t be exciting either. Took you guys forever to schedule those.

Scheduling advice from a Gump is the funniest thing in the world.
We do more out of conference road games in 1 season than Bama does in almost 10.
What a joke.

Georgia’s coach pre Richt didnt leave him with near the talent that Richt left Smart.
The easy argument to your question relies on the opposite being true. Smart was more impressive b/c he did it w/ a true freshman qb and much less talent than what Richt inherited. The NFL agrees.

This is fiction.

Would say Kirby. We had no chance at the NC. Rose Bowl vs Oklahoma better win than Sugar Bowl vs FSU with Anquan Boldin as qb. Different times. Being in the playoffs trumps being in Sugar Bowl. Was a great year in 02 but 17 was better.

Richt
he brought Georgia back into the national conversation after a 20 year hiatus
UGA had fallen to mediocrity and 2nd tier status
Richt hit a plateau and could never get over the hump; but he brought us back to relevance
not to diminish what Smart has done; but Richt's 2nd year was a turning point for the program - take that away and we are where Tennessee is today

It's too early to judge but it looks like Smart's 2nd year was also a turning point and one that could potentially be stronger.

maybe so
and I hope so
but to judge at this point in time, I would say getting us a championship after 2 decades gets a slight edge
Richt made us believe we could win again and changed the trajectory of the program

Rix was hurt. They had a wr at qb named anquan.
Rix was suspended for parking in a handicap spot. We started Fabian Walker and brought Anquan in late. If we would've started Anquan we would've won, he was a better qb than Rix or Fabian. Fabian was terrible

Did Richt win at Notre Dame, beat a top 5 team in the SEC Championship, and beat the #2 team and Heisman winner in the Rose Bowl with a true freshman QB?
Did Smart win the SEC and 13 games two years after taking over for Jim Donnan? Because whoever did that has my vote.

That gets you suspended at FSU? Clearly that was before Jimbo's reign.
