Exactly there aren't many loaded teams

I would say there are more than 2.

If your defense features a bunch of future NFL players, including multiple first round picks, All-Americans, etc., that qualifies as loaded imo.

Apparently not.

UGA's 2001 defense had 3 future first round picks on the DL, and another three NFL players.

4 linebackers who played for an average of about 8 years in the league.

And an entire starting secondary that got drafted along with multiple backups including Sean Jones, a second round pick, Thomas Davis a first round pick, etc.

There are multiple superbowl champs, multiple NFL team MVPs, etc on that defense.

It was absolutely loaded and goes directly to the point originally made that the roster Richt took over was absolutely flush with talent. To say that his starting defense who were all NFL guys is not a loaded defense is nonsense.

You are right, for UGA that is loaded. My apologies

I would have to go with Smart but Richts second year was a good one. I believe Smart has us in a better position to sustain the level of success than Richt did at the same juncture. Time will tell

Yeah, yeah, of course Georgia fans are gonna want to say Smart...but, the answer is clearly Smart.

2002 Georgia's best win was against, what, then #10 Tennessee who went on to go 8-5? The loss to Florida was pretty inexcusable - the Auburn and Alabama losses last year don't even compare. But it was a great year, and if it wasn't for some insane luck by Ohio State in which they won by the skin of their teeth several times, Georgia would've played for the championship - and probably lost.

2017 Georgia, by comparison, pasted pretty much everyone they played outside of Notre Dame, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Auburn, they won all but two of those, and the Auburn loss was well avenged. I do admit that the Oklahoma game was more lost by Oklahoma than won by Georgia, but 2017 Georgia had much more impressive wins and was a few bad breaks and a few amazing plays by Bama from a championship.

Saban did. Still getting those Georgia-based recruits.

It's funny seeing an FSU fan act superior like this. This isn't the 90's. Y'all have had a good run under Jameis and other than that, you've been irrelevant the last two decades.

Since 2000 UGA has more finishes in the top 5, more finishes in the top 10, more 10 win seasons, has not had to forfeit seasons due to academic cheating scandals, and generally has been a better program than FSU. Jameis got you a title and you should be thankful for that because outside of him, you're a bunch of fans who still think it's 1995.

And oh by the way, know who was only 1 of 2 colleges with multiple pro bowl defenders in 2016 and 2015? UGA. Who were the other schools? LSU and Bama. So you can get off this "FSU knows what a loaded roster is" idea because you just look silly to any non-FSU fan.

Did Smart making it to the NC game and losing to Bama put the 2017 season ahead of 2002?

Yes. Finishing #2 and playing for the National Championship trumps not playing for it.

Easily Smart. The SEC was down that year. Second best team was Alabama. UGA was the only top ten team and there were only three teams ranked in the conference. Smart's East was easier, but not by much. Smart had to play OU in the bowl game, UGA got an FSU team that backed into the ACC championship game with 8 wins.

Yes /thread

There have been threads about this on the GSB, and one good point somebody else said was that the 2017 team blew out teams the caliber of which the 02 team required photo finishes to beat (i.e. '02 USC, Clemson, Tennessee)

Plus, the '02 team lost to a BAD Florida team. The 17 team's only loses were on the road to a top 10 team and an OT loss in the NCG. Pretty hard to criticize.
