At the end of last year playing in the literal other corner of the country after plying a full college season in Georgia. Maybe let the guy reset and adjust for a second (which he now isn’t able to do for another month or so due to the wrist injury)?

Is Uga stealing signs or something? Condon was tearing it up last year and now can't do squat in the minors
I mean he has a broken wrist and is out for 6 weeks so…

I’d take a 1-2 weekend at UF straight up right now. Means our offense traveled and our pitching figured SOMETHING out enough to get dub against a good team in a hostile environment.
3-3 coming off the road after two weekends in this league is a great place to be

Posted this yesterday in the Rankings thread:

It’s kinda wild, coming into the season it seemed like UGA was going to need to lean on what should have been improved pitching to make up for the loss of Condon and Collins at the plate.
Instead, we have all but replaced Condon and Collins’ production with Zaborowski and Burnett and only gotten better in the pen; starting pitching is no better or straight up worse (in some part due to injury but I digress)

Man, there’s lacking talent and then there’s having virtually every guy on staff throwing walks and HBPs at a league leading rate. Something out of whack, hope it at least gets curbed if not outright fixed.
We don’t have to lead the league in strikeouts, we just can’t lead in BB and HBP

This is probably the most true. Every time Athens hosts a regional come May/June, ball flies with the summer heat. Think Athens set the record for total number of HRs in a regional back in 2019

Oh now that would be a fun one to investigate. Whole Tik Tok series waiting to happen with a fan going round with a tape measure to every schools walls

Robbie Burnett named SEC Player of the Week
quote:
Burnett, a 5-10, 191-pound senior infielder/outfielder from Franklinton, N.C., batted .667 (8-for-12) with eight runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and nine RBI in leading Georgia to an SEC series win over No. 23 Kentucky. The Wildcats entered the series with the nation’s second-ranked pitching staff including a 1.89 ERA

My heart can't take much more of our pitching struggles. There's no way we can expect our offense to keep scoring 10-17 runs a game.
Hoping that having the week off may let us reset and reassess some roles for guys this year. We’re not going to suddenly start pitching like we have Hancock/Wilcox/Locey again but maybe it at least gets us reducing the number of free bases we’re issuing en masse. I think everyone in conference is going to get hit this year; offenses across the board seem to be really good. But we can’t exacerbate that like we did against UK with an absurd number of walks and HBP.

Which is why I’m expecting to get swept this weekend and if we end up going 1-2 I’ll feel good about it

The hill is pretty badass.
It’s not even in its heyday anymore. Back in 2008 when we ended up a game short of a natty in Omaha, it was peak college baseball fandom. I’ll never forgive our former AD for not only letting that energy die out on shitty coaching hires and refusing to grow with the sport, but for literally planting trees at the top of the hill to block the view of those crowds so they’d stay away. Current AD had the good sense to personally climb up there and help the facilities crew cut down anything impeding the view as we got into May.

I went to the SR last year, but I haven't been yet this year. What has changed?
In addition to now being all turf, the entire left field line has been transformed into a new locker room, pitching lab, expanded batting cages, coaches offices, fan seating, and plaza area (if you were there last May, this area was just a large temporary grand stand and grounds crew area). The awning that only covered the area behind home plate has also been expanded to cover the entire stadium. New premium area has been added to the top of the first base side, right field has gone from some small portable bleachers to a multi tiered beer garden at the base of where a ton of the students congregate at the houses on top of the hill (off campus).

What other plans are in the works?
The most immediate is a new parking deck will be built just beyond the left field wall. What’s unique though is is that they are supposedly working on designs that will somehow incorporate a left field seating area into the design. Right now, it’s just a large parking lot beyond the trees in left field.
There is also going to be something more permanent done in right field eventually but left is going to get the immediate attention.

The yips is definitely a thing, and once you have it, good fricking luck getting rid of it..
I’ve seen catchers have it here over the years and it can tank your career for sure. Never seen a whole pitching staff with it, though. May not even be the yips but for every guy to have the same issues with control it’s got to be either coaching or something mental or both.

Either way, Wes Johnson has Georgia in the Top 10 after almost making Omaha last year, so he is clearly doing a lot of things right. It's really just a question of where he wants to coach at this point.
He’s definitely not someone I want to see kicked to the curb. Track record is way too good and proof of concept is still there to the point that we are attracting a lot of interest from recruits and portal guys that we wouldn’t have even been considerations for under Stricklin. We’ve also more or less given him the keys to the kingdom and a fat wallet to spend as he needs. Foley is a completely different venue this year with the upgrades and while the turf is annoying to purists like me, it’s his baby and he has big plans for owners going to use it postseason. We also have a phase 2 for Foley in the works that will transform left field so we’re not done building by a long shot.

I could see A&M make a play for him. Risky from their point of view though, as he might want to leave for Arkansas at some point.
A&M actually showed some interest in Johnson last season after Schloss bolted which is why we gave him a fat extension. Every indicator and statement from Wes thus far have been this is where he wants his last coaching stop to be before retirement but we know how coaches (especially baseball coaches) can be. All we can do is make his job easier and make it harder for him to walk away (which our admin is finally doing after 10+ years of penny pinching the sport on the heels of making the CWS every other year).

I don’t know if it’s his coaching methods, evaluation, or what. There is a degree of him trying to make Stricklin’s holdovers and some portal guys work. Weve operated with a shortage of pitchers for years through the Stricklin era so he at least upgraded the bullpen; we aren’t going to run out of arms this season like we did last and years prior. But Kolten Smith has been ill and Goldstein is coming back from TJ so 2 of his starters from last year are already in a hole. The other guys just aren’t attacking the strike zone with any confidence. The entire staff is walking and hitting batters far above the norm. It’s like they all have the yips
