Wes front loaded the schedule so arms have time to heal. Also starting finals this week and next
Wasn’t our stiffest non con schedule by any stretch but winning 24/26 games (with a lot of those being staff or midweek) is exceedingly difficult to pull off.

Also, swept our in-state rivals which hasn’t always been a guarantee in baseball. Nice result all around.
Dawgs close it out vs KSU 9-2

Finish the regular season 24-2 against our non-con schedule. 9 more to go, all vs SEC competition
Dawgs win it 9-2 over KSU

That ends the non-conference slate for the year and our midweek games.

Dawgs finish the regular season 24-2 against our non-con schedule (the losses were at UNCW and at Clemson)
Dawgs lead KSU 6-1 in the 6th

Robbie Burnett adds his league leading 19th HR
Zabo dressed out in a compression sleeve on his right arm. Word is that he is getting it looked at a second time on Monday so presumably out this weekend for Mizzou

Fear is that he tore his UCL (Tommy John). Good news is that he could potentially still DH for us but would have to fight the discomfort to do so.
Dawgs lead KSU 6-1 in the 6th

Burnett has his 19th HR of the year

6 runs on 6 hits for the Dawgs

6 pitchers so far, only 3 hits and 1 walk but 3 HBP

Regular season is fine.

Regional and Super Regional rules are dumb as hell in that regard. Glad they finally let teams play walk up music after years of banning it.

My personal opinion is Wes Johnson ends up back in MLB eventually.

Wes has said he has no interest in going back to the pros. Enjoys the control and development in college level.

He has been given free rein to build Foley Field in his own image (we will have a couple more expansions in the outfield coming soon; a parking deck is going up beyond left field and they may do some premium seating out there in conjunction. Also planning to move the scoreboard out of right field and expand the standing room only offering out there) and we are giving him ample resources in NIL. Too, while recruiting is a national thing (hell, our best players this year are from TX, NC, CA) the location ends up being a pretty big draw in portal recruiting for guys from GA who left and are looking for a reason to return closer to family.

MSU is more historically prestigious than UGA in baseball to be sure. But prestige alone isn’t going to bully UGA out of a coach who in 2 years has developed a recipe for success; based on the crowds we’ve been drawing this year and the appetite for additional season tickets, we will pony up to keep a good thing going.
Would wager the only place Wes leaves Athens for is Fayetteville

Freedom of choice. They don’t owe the government their presence and, in turn, if people want to disagree and take umbrage with their absence they are free to do so. Doesn’t affect me one way or the other and come Fall it’s not going to impede my pulling for them to succeed on the field.
One of our longtime radio guys, Jeff Dantzler, lost his wife Emily yesterday to a 2 year battle with cancer. Both are young - late 40s, early 50s. If you could spare a prayer, he and his family will need them. Jeff means a lot to a whole lot of us in the UGA sports community and this is one of those “life is not just unfair but downright cruel” moments.
Heartbreaking loss for a guy whose voice has become a big part of Georgia athletics. Prayers to Jeff and his family.

My money is on Will Coggin, assistant at UGA

Been mentally preparing for this possibility for a couple of months now. Think Wes has, too, which is why he brought Ammirati in from UK to his offseason
Miss State finally fires Lemonis

Need to be comfortable with the fact that Will Coggin is likely to make their short list as a former player and coach.
In the absence of BigBro’s detailed post, here’s a rankings average of SEC Teams likely to host using D1, BA, and Coaches Poll:

1. Texas (1st in RPI, ELO): 1st in D1, BA, Coaches

2. LSU (9th in RPI, 2nd in ELO): 2nd in D1, BA, Coaches

7. UGA (2nd in RPI, 4th in ELO): 9th in D1, 4th in BA, 7th in Coaches

8. Tennessee (10th in RPI, 8th in ELO): 12th in D1, 7th in BA, 6th in Coaches

9. Auburn (4th in RPI, 14th in ELO): 10th in D1, 5th in BA, 11th in Coaches

9. Arkansas (5th in RPI, 6th in ELO): 11th in D1, 10 in BA, 5th in Coaches

15. Vandy (3rd in RPI, 13th in ELO): 15th in D1, 14th in BA, 15th in Coaches
We got dropped 5 spots last week for getting swept at Vandy (despite beating a then-ranked Tech team midweek).

D1 has had a hard-on for Clemson this year for whatever reason.

I really loathe that missouri is winless. To sweep an SEC team is tough. To do it on the road is tougher (yes I know we've already done it this season).

While I agree with the sentiment, it’s also really hard to go 0-21 in conference without being truly dreadful. I think we hve enough sample size at this point to believe that this is in fact a team that we should drub into oblivion. Too, we’re on the road but 1) Mizzou doesn’t hve a crowd and 2) the weather in CoMo this weekend is 68, 72, 75 respectively. Usually when we struggle in that stadium it’s mid 40s and windy
Dawgs back up to #9 in D1Baseball poll, #4 in Baseball America

RPI at 2, ELO at 4

We are actually in prime position to be firmly back in the top 8 discussion if we can deliver on a 4-0 week against KSU and Mizzou. Would put us at 39-11, 15-9 going into our final 6 games
I’ll say, too, if you listen to the Nerdcast or D1 recap podcasts, their rankings definitely are moreso a power ranking than a fitting representation of where seeds might land as they kind of poo poo or praise RPI when it suits their narrative.

7 SEC teams currently in the top 10 of RPI (including all of the top 5), 5 SEC teams in the top 10 of ELO

But D1 only has 4 SEC teams in their top 10 (Texas and LSU at the top, UGA and Auburn at 9-10)
