I think a lot of normal kids from the deep blue coastal areas want to get away from all the woke crap at the universities there.

It’s not even THAT deep. Northeast is simply overcrowded and Midwest schools are cold half the year. California schools get a ton of applicants but are both expensive and highly selective (the whole UC system is very highly ranked). Southern schools (SEC, ACC, Tulane, etc) are relatively affordable, look like/are fun, and the weather beats the shite out of the Midwest.

You have no clue what you’re talking about. I went to an alumni dinner where the Dean of Business was presenting and she noted that over 60% of graduates stayed in state to start their careers.

Maybe the Culver Dean was taking about their business graduates because the Bama 2024 Class only saw 46% of graduates stay in-state postgrad (per Bama’s latest outcomes data). It was 45% in 2023 and 42% in 2022. So hey, that’s progress I guess!

We also just raised $1.8B in a recent capital campaign.

Your graduates within the past 10 years aren’t the one that got you that fundraising number. The problem for Bama isn’t short term, it’s getting recent grads to donate down the road (which in and of itself isn’t exclusively a Bama issue but the schools with a larger alumni base that stay in closer proximity to campus stand to be better off; out of sight, out of mind is a very real issue when it comes getting donors to write more than just an annual $100 check to get their car decal)

Alabama is now 70 percent out of state

Bama has been chasing the short term dollar on the coat tails of the football and sorority/tik Tok success. Problem is most of those OOS kids are the dumb trust fund babies from up north who couldn’t get into an ACC school (let alone anything Ivy League) so they come South to cosplay southerner for 4 years of college Disney world before returning home to work for daddy’s company/firm, rarely to return.

They still get a decent portion of kids from metro ATL but increasingly those same kids are the transplants to the area with no real reason to stick around the South unless it’s back in ATL, Charlotte, Nashville, or Houston/Dallas.

TLDR - They get OOS tuition dollars up front but their alumni pool isn’t sticking around to work in the state and they have little reason to donate once they leave (same issue Ga Tech is having right now)
Another portal addition:

It was a weird vibe tailgating in November (extreme cold didn’t help) with us being virtually the only game to build up to that day. But like you, I enjoyed actually getting to watch Michigan-Ohio State for once the next day.

Feels like (or at least I hope) that last year returned some juice to the game from a fan perspective. Kids today don’t hate those bastards nearly enough.

Didn't realize Tech was on a Friday again. Hopefully this isn't an annual thing...

It’s going to be an annual thing. It’s long been buried during the noon hour on Saturday behind Mich-OSU and like a dozen other northern rivalry games.

TV seems to like us getting our own time slot on Friday to draw eyeballs lounging around the house on Black Friday. We’re a national power, Tech typically plays up against us and makes it interesting for at least a half. It’s an old rivalry between two pretty well thought of southern schools academically speaking.

Plus Mercedes Benz has now started sponsoring one game a year in the Benz and it seems that’ll be us and Tech every other year for the forseeable future
Texas will be night game on ABC damn near guaranteed. Likely see Ole Miss at 3:30 with TSIO in Tuscaloosa this year
Oof. Idk but I hate seeing a lefty arm walk out the door. Still, Davis never really panned out after a good start before just imploding as the season wore on.

Good cautionary tale there as we picked him up out of the portal with the belief he could be our closer if not a weekend starter for us and he just never made it past middle relief.
Condon watch:
Now slashing .373/.506/.522 in High A after going 4/5 last night. Dudes about to go from Athens to Spokane to friggin Hartford. Credit the Braves for at least having all of their affiliates in the same state as the franchise
Simcoe remains one of the villains I hate the most but who is IRL beloved in Canada and I can’t square that up in my mind

Turn is such an underrated show

let's count how many times they'll say laissez les bons temps rouler

At least 60% of the scenery is going to be French Quarter shots, guaranteed

Is a UGA grad but I feel like nobody knows that

In other news, Charlie Condon is slashing .310/.467/.466 over 58 ABs in High A after returning from a broken wrist that caused him to miss all of spring training. May get moved up the ladder sooner than later.

3/4 today with 3 runs and a walk

If they can effectively locate it and drop in a 70+ change, 85-88 can be devastating
