Who had a better second year at Georgia, Richt or Smart?

2002 Georgia went 13 and 1 and were SEC Champions. Wouldve been in the playoff had it existed with a very real shot at winning the NC. Georgia ended up blowing out FSU in their bowl, finishing the season ranked 3rd.
Did Smart making it to the NC game and losing to Bama put the 2017 season ahead of 2002?

Georgia fans: Smart because he's who we have now

Smart. He followed it up with the number 1 recruiting class.

Did Richt win at Notre Dame, beat a top 5 team in the SEC Championship, and beat the #2 team and Heisman winner in the Rose Bowl with a true freshman QB?
Because whoever did that has my vote

I have a feeling there may be heavy amounts of foreshadowing tied to this coincidence. Ahh yes, a bowl game in Orlando against Nebraska.

Georgia’s coach pre Richt didnt leave him with near the talent that Richt left Smart.

Both had great 2nd seasons. Not sure how to pick. It wasn’t year 2 or year 6 or even year 15 that got Richt fired. We shouldn’t and won’t put up with going that long with an SEC title. Kirby’s in the clock now, he’s won support from the AD that Richt never had and he’s pulling in players like we never have.
2002 still one of my favorite years. 2017 seems better but it could be because it’s more recent.

I think Richt did. But I like the recruiting Kirby is doing to follow it up.

Cool? Doesn't change the fact that Smart's second season was flat out more impressive. Did I mention the average margin of victory for 2017 was 23 points? Because it was 29 points against SEC opponents.

I'll expound later tmrw when I'm at my work computer, but that's a hard one to answer. 02 was the more complete top to bottom team without a real weakness to speak of. But 17 had far better wins and zero bad losses. Tough call.

You do realize UGA has also won a national championship in the past four decades, right?

Actually Donnan left Richt with a loaded squad. Almost the whole defense went to the NFL.
Richt did not have to contend with Dynasty Program in year 2 like Kirby did against Bama.
