Neither was Long. Sounds like HY is done and will be out soon. The university mouthpieces in the media quit running cover for him today.
That being said they better hire somebody from the state. Bring back the GOBN for all I care. Quit trying to cater to the transplant $$$ in NWA. They don’t care about winning and aren’t invested in the program at a rate that makes any difference.

He refused to get off his fat, drunken arse and recruit.
He's a perfect fit for Illinois because they historically suck.

Nutt averages 7.5 wins per season with 11 game scheules.
He went to a bowl game 8 times. 10x more wins as dogs and losses as favs
2 Sec Champ games.
Repeat that a couple of times.
Running Nutt off was the biggest screw up since joining the SEC. What we would give for a ten year run like that now.
And we still have tards arguing he should have been fired early.
As for Petrino, he was blessed with Mallett and the 08 Ark high school class had more top level SEC and NFL type talent the the previous 5 yrs before that combined. Not sure what 6 more yrs would have looked like but we would not have had that falloff im sure. Brandon Allen would have been a heisman candidate playing for him.
Bert and Pittman were about the same . I think Pittman/Petrino was close.

This is not. They should’ve won 10 games that year, but lost to a Matt Campbell led Toledo team that won 9 games. Definitely not a good loss but Bert was 10x better than what we have now.

This is what is within a 300 mile radius of Fayetteville. St. Louis, Memphis, Kansas City, Dallas, etc. There is a lot of talent within 4 hours or so of Fayetteville. They just don’t get any of it any more.

Another thing of note is that Little Rock used to churn out it's fair share of football talent.
That hasn't been the case as much and a lot of the instate talent left during Morris and Pittman eras.
I think Silverfield at least has figured that part out but that will take time. He'd better figure out how to fix it faster or he won't be around long enough for the build out.

The issue with the question is that it implies Arkansas has had a singular death when they've probably had more than one. The NIL era killed Arkansas football most recently. Nutt being fired was a blessing. Petrino getting fired was awful for the program but Bielema had his moments and the program didn't crater. Hiring Morris damn near killed it but Pittman, against all odds as someone labeled a "career assistant", got it back to being competitive pretty quickly.
Then NIL happened. Sam begged and pleaded, saying "don't pay me a buyout, buy me some linemen" or whatever it was at that press conference one time. Arkansas' top players transfer yearly to conference rivals. The players they're replaced with seem to be a step below.

May be true, may not. Not exactly impeccable sauces IMO. Doesn't change the fact that they should've kept Bobby on and gave him a honest shot, with his own staff and players, instead of going out and hiring a guy because he was able to "upset" our shitty team in one game.

I think it was actually something boring but pivotal. I think it was when former AD Jeff Long committed Arkansas financially to an ultimately unnecessary north end zone expansion. The project began at the beginning of 2017 and was supposed to cost about $80 million. The project ultimately cost twice that much, and ultimately added less than four thousand seats.
The project was funded by bonds, donations, and athletics revenues. Although the project finished by 2018, significant future revenue streams were dedicated to its funding. This expansion, coupled with numerous buyouts, caused the Razorback Foundation to be as extended as it could be financially just before the COVID pandemic further complicated the revenue picture. The NIL era kicked off in 2021, and Arkansas' donors had just weathered a capital campaign for an expansion they didn't need for a team that wasn't succeeding. The timing for the beginning of NIL couldn't have been worse for Arkansas.
It's an ongoing issue--the bonds have a 20 year term and cost about $9 million annually.

Boosters accessing Houston Nutt's cell phone records was a pretty significant threshold. That revealed the level of BSC they were dealing with. It made everything that follows - down to the Petrino motorcycle crash, seem less surprising.
A case can be made for the day they joined the SEC though.

I'm pretty sure that is true as Petrino was a huge prick off the field and people that interacted with him has been negative.
