There is a lot of room between top 10 and 5-5.

Probably should have been expected to go 6-4 and ended up 5-5. They lost two they would expect to win (Mizzou/Miss State) and won one they would expect to lose (at Fla).

arted out with some great offensive performances (LSU,SC) then lost multiple WR's and RB's for the year.Could have been a GOAT offense

Na. Maybe, just maybe if y'all had one great WR on that team, then it could've been a possibility, but even then, probs not.

"2000 Alabama - Came into the season ranked #3 and finished the year with a 3-8 record."

This. As soon as I saw the thread title, I thought of that team. (I have to admit that I couldn't remember the year in which it occurred, and maybe that's a good thing.)

Have you met the 2011 Aggies?

These all ended as losses.

vs Okie St, 20-3 at halftime
vs Arkansas, 35-17 at halftime
vs Mizzou, 28-17 at halftime
vs t.u., 16-7 at halftime

WTF? We had 3 WR's make NFL rosters and by GOAT I meant GOAT in terms of UGA all time offenses

Nice edit BTW

Ohh okay, I thought you meant GOAT in cfb.

I'm not saying that the receivers were trash or anything, but they just didn't have a lot of star power.

For sure.

From the Freddie Milons punt return for a TD early against UCLA while ranked #3 to the dreadful 9-0 loss in the Iron Bowl's move to Tuscaloosa to end the season...that was brutal. It takes a collective meltdown from the head coach down to the third string punter to lay an egg like that coming off a SEC title year. Losing Alexander and Samuels hurt.

A moment of silence for the infamous self labeled "Pancake Posse" OL.

MSU 2015 was disappointing with Dak returning and a lot of firepower yet went 9-4, one less win than the previous year when we had hoped for at least another 10 win season

I'm gonna throw LSU 1998 into the mix. Returned a senior-laden team coming off a #13 finish in 1997. They were the overwhelming favorites to win the West and, to a lesser extent, the SEC. They were #6 in the country, started 3-0, and then finished the season with 4-7 record. Somehow, they still managed to beat the eventual West champ, Miss State, 41-6. They lost 5 games by 6 or fewer points. Until last season, it was the worst defense I've ever seen LSU field. Offense was still very good.

2001 State was really rough. Preseason Top
20 team picked to finish first or second in the West, they went 3-8 and started nearly a decade run of the program being arguably the worst in the Power 5.

Yea that was the sad downfall of Jackie S. Too many off field distractions

Ain’t nothing wrong with a little Bham bowl. Nothing like paying a native $10 to park in their yard then taking a foot tour of some of the finest projects the south has to offer

My general mindset is that people exaggerate everything. I assumed everyone was being dramatic when it came to describing Legion Field. I went to a Birmingham Iron game and holy shite it was terrifying. It was shocking to see my friends tires after the game

I think in the 2000s Duke and Baylor were certainly worse power five teams than State

The second proclaimed Pancake Posse was very disappoint.
