2008 UGA was definitely our most disappointing from expectations to end results. 2007 UGA probably irks me more, just due to the teams that we lost to that ultimately kept us from playing for the natty.
I really wasn't comfortable with the #1 ranking coming into the 2008 season. I went to the ASU game in Tempe and it pretty much solidified my discomfort. We won, but it was ugly, and against an overhyped ASU team that lost to UNLV the week prior.
The 2007 team was quintessential Richt. An inexplicable loss to SC (go figure), and soon thereafter an absolute arse kicking at the hands of Tennessee. Only after the party in the endzone in JAX did we realize we were good, and it was too late.

quote:That was Faulk and Tyler's senior year, right? The year of the Drop Linebacker? As I remember, in an era where defenses were important, that LSU team could put 30 pts on anyone- but they'd give up 33. It was such a bizarre thing: to see Kevin Faulk live up to preseason expectations, you'd have sworn they'd win the SEC that year. But we literally played 10 on 11 defense.
1998 was more disappointing for LSU than 2020 because of COVID.

For me hands down it was 2016 LSU
Ridiculous talent all over the field offense / defense
Lost Wisconsin / Auburn / Florida / Bama all by single digits because our offense was suicidal, and Les should have been fired the year before.

There is a lot of room between top 10 and 5-5.
We still had the same amount of top 10 wins in 2020 as A&M had. Let that sink in. That should tell you the difference in the two programs historically and even now.

Top Five most disappointing teams of the last 25 years?

2020 LSU - The LSU Tigers followed up what was arguably the greatest season in modern college football history unranked and right at .500.
Not really hard to understand. In a typical year most teams lose 15 seniors and a few elite players to the NFL.
LSU 2020 season lost 35 players off the 2019 team.
Not an excuse but a fact, too many players off a team to play at the top level.
Will take more than a year to come back to the level to even compete.
Bama recruits at the highest level in college football and the depth they create is amazing. LSU does not recruit at that level to lose 35 players and still win championships.
Even Bama could not overcome the injuries they had in 2019 to win the national title.

I'm gonna throw LSU 1998 into the mix. Returned a senior-laden team coming off a #13 finish in 1997. They were the overwhelming favorites to win the West and, to a lesser extent, the SEC. They were #6 in the country, started 3-0, and then finished the season with 4-7 record. Somehow, they still managed to beat the eventual West champ, Miss State, 41-6. They lost 5 games by 6 or fewer points. Until last season, it was the worst defense I've ever seen LSU field. Offense was still very good.
1998 LSU is the answer for me. We were back. 3-0, up to #6. Finished 4-7, it was surreal. We scored - offense wasn't the problem. But by the end of the year, we all knew we'd give up the last points. There were several really exciting games, none of which went our way. The UGA game that year was the loudest I have ever heard Tiger stadium. Champ Bailey, Hines Ward. It was awesome. Except the result. That was also the year I stopped getting worked up about games, because I saw so many dudes get worked up in bad ways, and it did not look good.

Yes . . .I am sure everyone would look at LSU's hilariously bad, completely unstable, and scandal ridden 2020 season as some sort of harsh reminder of Tiger supremacy. I too wish we could have dropped games to Moo State and Mizzou and being completely blown out by one of the worst Auburn teams in recent memory. It is SINKING IN!

2011 Alabama. It lost a game 9-6

As an Auburn fan 2014. Had the wizard of the read option (Marshall) coming back as QB…once the fumble occurred the season went to crap.

Yep all that bad and we still are more relevant than A&M. Everyone said LSU was unstable after losing to Troy then a quick turnaround and they had the goat season. Scandal? Not sure what that is even supposed to mean. Yeah us beating 3 traditional rivals one of which being ranked #6 during our worst season since the Clinton administration was hilariously bad. On a non covid season, last year’s LSU would be the equivalent to an average A&M season.
Win a national championship or even simply make it to Atlanta then talk some shite kid.

2010 Alabama- Preseason #1 and a lot of NFL talent. Outplayed and out coached by South Carolina, heartbreak vs LSU, and that Iron Bowl. The Camback is worse than the kick six. I respected the 2013 Auburn team. 2010 not so much.
2008 Auburn- SEC West favorites. Finished 5-7 and who could forget 3-2
2016 Ole Miss- blew big leads vs FSU and BAMA. Crashed and burned the season.
2014 Kentucky- Started 5-1 and lost their last six.
2015 LSU- Fournette runaway Heisman favorite until the BAMA game. Should’ve fired Miles after the A&M game like they were going to instead of holding over for four games the next year.

Terrible waste of a special defense.

The 2012 edition of the Vols should’ve competed for a spot in Atlanta.
Throw in Da’Rick Rogers into that receiving group and that should’ve been an elite receiving group with Justin Hunter, Cordarelle Patterson and Mychal Rivera.

The UGA injuries were very unlucky for sure, frick Neyland. That Mizos team was really good as well.

I’ll throw in 2013 LSU. OBJ, Landry, and Hill - probably the best offense Les Miles had and the defense sucked.
