Isn’t this simply a bandaid? If they’re operating at an annual 8 figure deficit, $100,000,000 isn’t going to go very far, particularly when you consider that deficit will only be larger with this cutting future media-rights revenue

Yes.

The only entities capable of making college sports worse are PE and the federal government.

This is one of the most accurate posts ever on this site.

With a 9-game conference schedule and the highest ratings ever in the 1st year of the ABC deal, the next media contract will be massive.

It will also be a long long ways off (great negotiating there Sankey).

Imagine giving it all up just to somehow afford a coach who's never won an SEC title. Wild.

I wonder if 'all you can eat corndogs' would convince more LSU fans to fork over more money?

I hope it isn't true and won't panic yet until something more reputable comes along reporting it.

what is the legality of essentially selling part of a public entity - LSU - to a private entity - private equity?

I would assume they are just selling LSU's interest in the media rights, not actually an interest in LSU itself.

$100,000,000 now to give up 10% of future media rights money forever?

Perhaps it's current media rights, which would expire under a different contract with ESPN? No clue how much the current media rights are worth though.
