Correct.
Just like Lane Kiffin staying at Old Piss…
Black Bear fans were wrong about that rumor, too

You’re just sad the “LSU is broke” tired line can’t be used anymore. It was false before and if this is true, it’s definitely still false.
The article just said that LSU is running a $25-$35 million deficit.

Never heard of this "media outlet" so I'm not sure I would put any credibility in what they are reporting from anonymous sources.

The rumors i’m hearing are more like they’re offering a small amount of equity to the biggest boosters.
That is what a private equity deal is - selling a stake in a company - or this case a public university- to private investors in exchange for some type of payment - in this case $100 million.
The private equity investors in this deal just happen to be LSU fans.
This is opening pandora’s box.

No I understand but there is a difference between giving the people already donating money for free a stake and selling a portion to Bain Capital.
and yeah i think this is pandora’s box for sure.

most programs are about too once revenue sharing kicks in.
That’s an enormous expenditure that was previously free. Lost AD aren’t operating that high over their expenses.

As an Alabama fan who watched boosters effectively run Alabama right into the ground between Bryant’s and Saban’s tenures, Bain Capital might have done a better job. And those boosters didn’t even own an actual share of the athletic department.
Can anyone point out a football program that has had sustained success that was being run by boosters instead of one clear leader? I can’t think of one. I can think of a number of horror stories - the SMU death penalty, Alabama’s probation, Auburn’s “keep it down home” probation and their current ongoing futility, USC’s probation and loss of the Bush Heisman, etc., etc.

No program is doing well without booster money.
You just need someone they trust and can get behind.

Fixed it for you. A group of private individuals are going to own 10% of all future LSU athletic earnings.
But for anyone who ever wanted to own a piece of an SEC athletic department here is your chance.

Per the article, this group would have no say in any type of athletic department decision.

Dear lord. No way can this be accepted.

Pretty much every AD is out there saying this is completely unsustainable, this was always the way it was going to end when we decided to pay players and let them transfer around willy nilly.
You have to make the players employees at this point and move to an NFL style model with contracts and a salary cap.
Posted on 8/4/26 at 12:20 pm to SidewalkTiger
If this is the way we are going, if this is the model and it really is a business, how long before the whole thing implodes?
I care about LSU because I am from Louisiana. It is the state school. I am an alumnus. I cared about the players because, by and large, they were from here. They stuck around for three or more years. They were in classes at LSU.
Are we all really going to care about players hunting for the best contracts and being in a business? This isn't the NFL. Are we really going to be passionate and buy season tickets to watch NFL Lite with two super conferences and a 24-team playoff?
Who cares about players playing for a high-bidding brand instead of a point of pride for their region?
Yes, the old system had its share of flaws, but this is becoming something it was never meant to be. I don't want to fund and cheer for the NFL's de facto development league.
