The 1946 Army-Notre Dame game had Game of the Century billing. And it wasn’t even the first.
And it definitely rivals the historic gravity of the ‘66 GotC. In 1946, Army and ND were on simultaneous NC dynasty runs and undefeated streaks (one program ending, in Army, and one program beginning, in ND). Arguably this game had been building hype for years.

I never knew why Arkansas never claimed it. I just assume that the reason Arkansas didn't do so is because it wasn't an undefeated season.

The AP is located in New York City. A huge presence of Notre Lame fans.
Let us not forget they lost to a 5-6 Ole Miss team during the regular season while the rest lost to ranked teams. You know actually good teams that made a bowl game.
2nd ranked Alabama lost to12th ranked Nebraska.
3rd ranked Arkansas lost to 4th ranked Texas.
4th ranked Texas lost to top ranked Notre Dame.
5th ranked Penn State lost to 6th ranked Kentucky.
And Notre Lame lost to unranked Ole Miss.

Tennessee has a lot where they were undefeated at the time of National Title selection yet they werent considered:
1938: 10-0
1939: 10-0
1940: 10-0
1956: 10-0
1967: 9-1

2004 Auburn was a good team, but are we honestly saying they deserved to split with 2004 USC? Team that went to wire to wire #1 and curb stomped OU 55-19 and QB won the Heisman? Don’t forget they beat Aub on the plains the year before.

No one was beating USC the way they played that night.
Oklahoma was loaded but USC was more so.
Auburn was a good team but they just didn't have the dudes to match up with them.

I’m not about SEC loyalty. I rooted for Oregon and Florida State vs Auburn in the Natty’s. I’m just making the point 2004 USC was unbeatable that year.

I can see 84 and 85. Tiptop25 actually gives UF and Washington a split for 1984. But how did 1990 UF deserve a split? They lost 45-3 to Tennessee, whom co-NC Colorado tied. The 45-30 loss to FSU also was not too impressive.

Here is tiptop25's write up for 1908. He says that LSU did not deserve a NC and rates them as #11 for that year.

I had season tickets for the 2004 Auburn Tigers. Home side, 50 yard line, row 2. I couldn't see over the players on the sidelines. I did see some action and mostly it was on the video boards. That team was special. Two NFL running backs, NFL quarterback, 2 NFL receivers, they were the best team that year and should of gotten the natty.

"Official just missed it there" Dude was looking straight at it!! LMAO. Arkansas got jobbed at home and on the road in the SWC. If you didn't see it, you can't understand how bad it was.
