Other universities would be incredibly short sighted to expel a charter member of the SEC for not rostering NFL training camp players. A charter member that has a ton of athletic success and TV ratings. That has NOT broken any rules.

Kiffin made a joke at halftime and that's going to be the impetus for kicking LSU out of the SEC? That is absurd to the highest degree.

Maybe if you're paid 9mil a year to run a program, you shouldn't stick your thumb in the conference 's butthole at halftime.
Especially during litigation you have to learn to STFU.

Basically, you're saying the SEC is too sensitive to handle a literal joke.

Fair point, and most of this is just legal filing sabre rattling. The SEC probably has no intention of voting to remove, its just staking the fences with that language.

They allege LSU and Kiffin encouraged or coerced the players to sue the NCAA and the league.

The SEC was never mentioned in the original suit brought by the players regardless if LSU coerced them or not (I haven't seen proof).
They we added because once the TRO was issued against the NCAA, the SEC tried to step in and piss on the post by publishing some new rules and penalties if "pro" players were played. So subsequently they were added in these players suit. Sankey interjected himself into this shite.

There is one question to ask. What does the SEC want LSU to do? Not play "pro" players? Okay, well they didn't.

And oh by the way, there's an argument to be made that LSU is now breaking the La. court order. Because in the injunction issued by the La. court, the judge added a stipulation that LSU shall not impede or prevent these kids from playing. So even if LSU did roster/play them, the question still arises, what does the SEC want LSU to do? Break a La. court order?

This is a pretty significant accusation.

The SEC can already expel a member with a 2/3 vote. Sankey clearly views this as an issue he can manipulate to gain power for himself and the league office and useful idiots will just hand it to him.

Honestly, at this point, LSU can leave the conference for all I care. Sankey is incompetent and hurts the members with stupid ideas like a 9 game schedule.

At the end of the day, he's trying to establish the power to remove a member through the court to set precedent.

I would be genuinely surprised if they voted LSU out.

I don't like it one bit that Sankey is doing it though. What's to stop him from the next time he (and the NCAA) fricks up and they want to place the blame elsewhere from targeting another conference member? There's a ton of other mechanisms they could use to "punish" LSU.

This part seems completely unnecessary if they weren’t intent on at least holding a formal vote. Wild times.

This is the best part of all of it. The SEC tried to make a power move and got themselves wrapped up in a lawsuit. Now they’re saying it’s LSU’s fault that it happened.

You can’t make this up

The SEC says Lane Kiffin's halftime comment to Holly Rowe and his post-game comments show that LSU doesn't have control over the football program

It's childish behavior to me for putting a halftime comment into a legal brief. Are coaches now going to have to watch what they say to the sideline reporter?

I'm guessing they settle, LSU pays some fines, and there are some temporary restrictions or maybe a coaching suspension (if Lane is found to be involved in coercion.) Maybe Verge gets fired if he was involved as he's an easy scapegoat.

This.

It looks like he is trying to gain the power to kick out a member institution via the league office, rather than full SEC member vote.

It would be surprising as hell if they kick out LSU for this, but, damn, this is getting good.
