They didn’t say they were kneeling to disrespect the American flag. It is your opinion that kneeling is disrespecting the flag.
It absolutely is disrespecting the flag and what it stands for. The flag doesn't stand for the klan, it stands for our country, and the millions that died for our freedoms.

It’s possible to disagree with both.

It is absolutely thier right to protest. It is also absolutely disrespectful to the men and women who have died for this country to give them those freedoms.
People can like it or not. Agree with it or not.
When you disrespect the anthem by kneeling people view that as disrespect to the military people who fight for our freedoms.

Just because I’ve seen Clemson, Bama, and Arkansas fans digging on OM for this...
MRW I realize South Carolina, Alabama, and Arkansas ALL have more certified hate groups than Mississippi. Yeah. Source: SPLC
Cue “Something something liberal snowflake something something blah blah mouth breather mentality.” Thanks for playing. Good night.

I was simply pointing out the facts which is that those states all have more than Mississippi. I know that’s not convenient for you..

So its really not that bad in Mississippi then? Just like I lived in Harrison and Tom Robb and the Klan never did anything. People make it a bigger deal than what it is. They would have been better off ignoring it since the rally on school was against it anyways.

Last chance... your proposed defense of Mississippi is based on your state's rankings compared to other states?
You're sure you want to do this? I've got quite a list, and let's just say you don't quite measure up

While you don't agree with them doing that(and obviously that's perfectly fine)...it's completely their right to be able to do so.
Isnt it their right to on their own time? And not the schools time?

This pretty well sums it all up. To be completely frank, I wish our guys hadn't knelt today, but I'm a little surprised this thread has created so much interest. If this had been at another school, I couldn't have cared less.

I do find it interesting people get more fired up about players peacefully protesting than them beating the shite out of their girlfriends.

Look at the ratings for the NFL drop after the kneeling started.
At alarming rates rating were dropping.
Goes to show whether people like it or not most Americans will tune you out and not watch if they deem it disrespectful.

None of those states have a flagship university that has draped itself in racist to semi-racist "Old South" imagery forever, though. Which is why I can't think of a Klan rally in Fayetteville or at the University of Arkansas in my memory.
We used to play Dixie, too. But stopped in 1969, like most other southern schools. I've heard the "Ole Miss" band play that in the 2010s. I don't believe I have seen a Confederate flag at an Arkansas tailgate, ever, while they are always present in the Grove in some form or fashion.
It's good that the school is trying to even out its image, but there are solid reasons why they show up at your campus and not ours. It isn't a coincidence.

I have no dog in this fight. I agree with the majority that the racists marching are despicable assholes.
However, I would point this out:
You may not intend something to be taken a certain way, but if you do it publicly, you need to understand that the public will view it and make interpretations.
Example: I love America. I may be so proud of that, that I want the American flag on everything in my house. Yay, I'm a proud patriot.
But if I have the American flag printed on every sheet of toilet paper and try to hand out rolls, the vast majority will look, think "you're wiping your arse with the American flag", and think I'm an unpatriotic jackass.
Same thing applies to kneeling during the Anthem. Your intent is your own, but it's a public action and others will judge. And the first thing they think of will be "they are protesting America".
Football players also kneel AFTER the game, and that is viewed entirely differently from those kneeling during the anthem. And I think that's pretty much praised across the board, instead of being divisive.
Had the Ole Miss players knelt at center court immediately after the game, it would have drawn a lot of attention, and no blowback at all, misunderstood or not.
However, I would point this out:

They didn’t say they were kneeling to disrespect the American flag. It is your opinion that kneeling is disrespecting the flag. That isn’t their belief. Your interpretation is not by default the correct interpretation. It’s like telling someone else what he created isn’t art.

I'm sure these guys meant no disrespect to your average joe in the military who did a few tours in Afghanistan.
They just picked the national anthem because it's a very public demonstration and they'd get more eyes on their cause.
If you're offended by this you're choosing to be offended. You don't have to choose to be offended.
