I understand the the Confederate flag causes emotions among some. I don't have a problem with the flag, but I understand why some do.

I just feel kneeling for the Anthem brings about the wrong kind of attention.

because they will count more in one state and not the other? Or are you suggesting that the KKK of arkansas is a knitting club and not a racist organization?

I looked at the list. Seemed reasonable. Didn't have "KA" on there.

I'll answer. I've seen people go back in body bags week after week after week fighting for this country and for what that flag and anthem stand for, and so have many others. I'm choosing to be offended because even though it's their right (that the people in those body bags died to protect), it doesn't make them any less of an a-hole for doing it at that time. When the anthem is played, they ask everyone to stand for the anthem to honor America and those who have died protecting it. Right after they say that, assholes like these basketball players take a knee. The anthem has ZERO to do with those band of misfit inbred morons waving a confederate flag on campus. If you're going to protest, try not doing it at a time where the rest of the building is trying to honor people who gave them the right to act like a bunch of assholes. Just because they are rightfully upset at the racist pieces of garbage outside doesn't mean they should unintentionally piss on the people everyone else is trying to honor when that song is played. Do it during pregame. Do it during a media timeout. Do it during a postgame press conference. Do it right before the tip. I don't give a shite. Just don't do it during that time, please.

I understand the reasoning, and I wish the players would’ve picked a better time to protest, but come on. I bet half the people in this thread raging on these players have gone to the concession stand during the anthem or held their beer over their heart instead of their hand giving a half arse salute. I hope y’all get just as mad at those people as you do these 18 year old kids. This is a good teaching moment for them but they clearly were not trying to disrespect the Flag or those who fight for our country.

Ole miss people made statements:

Also Tyree a junior PG tweeted:

quote:

To the people that fight for this country, my teammates and I meant no disrespect to everything that you do for us, but we had to take a stand to the negative things that went on today on our campus. #WeNeedChange

A players mom tweeted:

quote:

the rally did just what it set out to do is to divide some with weak minds. please im begging you dont let this happen. one thing i loved about oxford was how tight and loving everybody seemed. i see no color. i promote love and peace.??

Good for them. I served over twenty years to protect their right to free speech. I'm not offended in the least, except by idiots who decided to rally in honor of a flag and a cause that tried to destroy our great nation.

Respectfully, please don't tell me to "come on". Half the people in this thread probably do exactly what you said. They don't have a platform for me to really dig into, but any time that happens at a game it is extremely irritating. The reason that anthem is being played is to pay respect. The kids trying to divert the attention from that is disrespectful, no matter their intentions. "Hey, I know this anthem is being played to honor the people who DIED to give me this country I live in, but my feelings about some inbred rednecks are more important than honoring them for 2 minutes". That is what they are saying whether they intend to or not. Period.

You're right. Nobody outside of Oxford would have even known about any demonstration if it hadn't been for this stupid stunt. These kids just wanted people to "see ME..look at ME!". This shite has gotten old.

It's still dumb to play the national anthem at sporting events between 2 teams from the same country.

ok. Are you a person of color? Have you had the KKK rally near you while being a person of color? If not, your opinion means nothing about this. If you can't put yourself in their shoes then don't get high and mighty about what they should or shouldn't do. The fact that so many people minimalize the impact that KKK rally would have on some people is mind blowing.

I'm white and do not know how it would feel to be a black man with the racist KKK rallying near me. That's why I will not say if they should have kneeled or not. It's not about me.

RockChalkTiger-I totally agree with you. As a 25 year Marine Veteran myself, I applaud those kids for peacefully protesting. Every single veteran that has or will ever serve in the military takes an oath to defend the CONSTITUTION of the United States of America.

For those that keep saying those kids should have chosen another way to protest seems to me would have been the same people that would have said the same thing to Dr Martin Luthier King Jr.

To those ole miss basketball players, I salute you. Because I’m this world you have choices. You can choose to do the right thing, or you can choose to do the wrong thing, but the worst CHOICE you can make is to Choose to do NOTHING.

Just because people have been through racism doesn't mean it isn't a dick move to protest during a time meant to honor people that fought to make sure that they have the freedoms that they currently have in the United States. The fact that so many people like yourself can't grasp that a shite ton of people think this is a disrespectful time to have a protest of any shape or form is what is mind blowing. It's almost like half the country has some sort of social disorder where you don't get where and when things are appropriate.

there are some people who think it's disrespectful, and then there are a shite ton of people that use it as an excuse to be offended.

There are enough people who truly think it's disrespectful that they should have enough common courtesy to do it at a different time. Why would you not?

Because that flag allows a group of racists pieces of shite to demonstrate and attempt to intimidate a whole race. They have the right to kneel to protest the fact that our country still allows that type of demonstration/intimidation (let's call it what it is).

That flag allowing all people to demonstrate whatever they want without the government taking them to prison is a good thing. That flag allowing those racists to act like morons is a good thing. What the hell are you talking about?
