Protest all you want but some people dont understand how this can offend some people....as a combat vet I take personal offense to the protests during the anthem....I dont get as fired up as a lot of other people do, but it does frustrate me some

Which is stupid, because you give the hillbillies a platform to spout off to the media and bring attention to their "movement." In their eyes, they have won because their protest, and the resultant counter-protest, is going to be on the 5:00 news this evening.

Well the good news is they aren’t protesting you or what you’ve done for America. And the flag doesn’t = military. And kneeling for the flag doesn’t = hating America or it’s military.

I wouldn't have felt anything at all. The smart move is to ignore dorks and they will go away.

While you don't agree with them doing that(and obviously that's perfectly fine)...it's completely their right to be able to do so.

This.

Well yes I know it's their right to do so...I just believe there are other ways to get the message across....

But why?
It doesn’t lessen your service. It doesn’t take away our military superiority. It doesn’t take away anyone’s patriotism or prevent them from defending our country. It’s not saying they don’t respect anyone’s service for the country.
Kneeling is theoretically more respectful than not acknowledging the anthem/flag at all. We kneel in respect for a lot of things. It’s not burning the flag, destroying it, or destroying what it stands for. It’s not an act a violence against our country either.
ETA: And in this case they weren’t even protesting the flag. They were just drawing attention to the situation occurring on their campus.

Your logic is extremely simple minded. They likely WANT these hillbillies to have their exposure so that people can see that these people are real, and they are active. The entire point is exposure. That’s exactly what protests are meant to do; bring exposure to whatever they are protesting. They want it on the 5:00 news.

That’s simply not true. Ignoring a situation doesn’t make it go away. What an idiotic post.

It is true. Makimg a big deal about a very small number of social misfits is exactly what they want. In any event, kneeling for the anthem is a low rent way to do it.

The hillbillies want that, too. They are attention whores looking for nothing but 15 minutes of fame. These people exist and will always exist. There will always be racists and bigots out there. It's clear all these assholes wanted was attention. Congratulations, you gave it to them.
I'm pretty sure they know their point of view is in the small and hated minority. The fact that they are there on campus, demanding the Confederate flag fly over the university, tells me they don't care what people think and were just looking for someone to demonstrate against them.
The best way to combat these yokels is to marginalize and ignore them. Sure...they won't just ago away and disappear, but no one will know they exist either. And that's all they want - acknowledgement of their existence.

We can just agree to disagree. I wasn’t raised to look the other way. Different strokes for different folks.

a low rent way to do it.

That’s not “all they want”. These idiots have a lot of wants, and it’s up to others to expose them and pariah them. Obviously this kneeling situation has helped with that, due to the exposure. As I said above, some were raised to ignore issues and some were raised to confront it head on. I can’t fault either side in most circumstances, but to act as if there is one uniform approach- ignoring it- is misguided.

would have been better if they pissed on the confederate flag during the national anthem, then wiped their arse with old glory

Such as? I see this mentioned frequently but have failed to see anyone give an option that would also be a) peaceful and b) on as large of a platform as a nationally televised basketball game in front of thousands.

Refusal to play for a school nicknamed for the plantation master's wife. Refusal to wear a uniform or play on a court that proudly proclaims which end of the civil war they ended on... Thatd be a start.
