I don't know if he would've taken the Ole Miss job anyway - the Ole Miss job is tough and not very attractive to coaches with big aspirations.

I think AK making the move now is smart for everyone involved. He can now openly look for other jobs. We don’t have to “fire” him and it makes us look better for what that’s worth. We can’t openly look for a replacement. I just hope a ton of other jobs don’t open up this offseason (see football season) and we can get a better look from pool of coaches looking to jump to power 5 basketball. The SEC being stronger hopefully helps us land a solid coach.

No doubt AK will have a job somewhere else. Guy can coach, but probably needs a change of scenery to keep going. 12 years is a long time at one place in coaching years.

No doubt you're right. The new Pavilion is HUGE for the program. Not necessarily because it's overly nice or anything, but because the Tad Pad was truly a disgrace to college basketball around the nation.

I'll be sad to see AK go. I was there when they beat Kentucky on the Chris Warren 3 at the buzzer. LOVED the Murphy Holloway/Reggie Buckner/Terrance Henry/Marshall Henderson/Jarvis Summers team.

I too doubt we could get anyone better but I hope he can find a job at a good spot. UGA would be a good fit. Under performing program but would have no problem recruiting there.

Even if they had fired Kennedy a few years ago and hired Michael White, he would have been gone the first chance he got to go to a program like Florida. You are overvaluing the OM job thinking that.

If we fired AK a few years ago prematurely we would’ve been roasted by every media outlet with a website and a twitter account. No coach including Mike White would’ve come.

Just isn’t a very high ceiling at Ole Miss.

I dont know...They built a world-class coliseum over there and now their b-ball facilities are as nice as any school in the country. I've seen a game there and it's an excellent experience. That Memphis pipeline is ripe to bring talent down there for the right coach. I'd go get Tubby.

I hate to see this....but it looks like it's time.

and yes....we our chancellor will probably cause us to frick up this hire.

We absolutely should have hired Michael White but it was very difficult to justify firing AK at that time.

The problem with Ole Miss' ceiling as a program is the lack of "secondary recruiting budget".

It just doesn't exist for basketball.

I was thinking that too. Can this be right ??

"Kennedy has been the coach of Rebels since 2006 and will leave as the winningest coach in Ole Miss history."

AK Gone

That's pretty bad when Andy Kennedy is the best coach in your programs history, lol. He never really did anything

Never having a losing season and regularly having a winning SEC record is doing something for Ole Miss.

Considering the dump they played in before the TadPad opened, it is shocking Andy Kennedy could even convince D2 caliber athletes to play at Ole Miss

You mean the building that is now the Student Services building that hasn't seen a basketball game since 1965?

Michael White isn't a typical ex-jock turned coach who wants to get back to his alma mater.

Whites dad is an AD, and his brother Danny was a big-time fundraiser at Ole Miss. Michael understands that college athletics is a business. Ole Miss basketball coach is not a launching pad for career advancement. I mean, Rod Barnes was the coach for a decade before AK. Rod freaking Barnes

It's just like LSU with Miles. A change was needed because the program went stale. Now we wait to see if OM botches the hire like LSU did with O

If UF finishes badly it wouldn't surprise me to see White jump ship (not that I want it to happen but it's possible)

Ak made the Ole Miss job a lot better in his time at Ole Miss. We had the worst facilities in the SEC when AK got here and are easily in the top half now. He did more for the program than anybody ever has. I think it was time to move on and try something new. This was an older team that doesn't have a good recruiting class coming in next year. It is the time to make a move and try something new considering it was gonna be a rebuild under AK anyway.

Let's not make AK seem better than he really is now. He has only made the ncaa tournament 2 times in 12 seasons at ole miss and only won 1 frickin tournament game. I know that may be good for someone coaching at ole miss, but damn, he's not some great coach. He's average at best.
