Watching the games all day yesterday we saw some crazy stuff. Most of the penalties called, were in fact, penalties. Sure there were some sketchy ones, but for the most part, most (including Fournette's 90 yard td run that got called back) were legitimate, even if they had zero bearing on the play.

Here's the point I want to make. I also watched officials "swallow" their whistles a dozen times as well on clear penalties. I saw an LSU player hit the Syracuse quarterback 2 feet inbounds and get a flag, and I saw another player hit the qb 12 feet out of bounds and not get a flag. So much of it is subjective.

But when we can't watch a simple college football game without flags and stoppages every third play, the officials are losing focus on what their role is and they are harshing the buzz of the viewers. Especially keeping in mind that the letter of the law is broken on virtually every play. Maybe they should focus more on the spirit of the law so that we don't all have to wait until 20 seconds after each big play to see if the play will stand. It's getting to the point where watching a game is becoming tedious.

Flame away.

LSU wins, still bitches about refs. Sounds about right.

I think there is a petition to send to Birmingham.

One of the Syracuse players basically power bombed Harris out of bounds, it was pretty hilarious

LSU ref threads never get old. I miss their schedule threads, though.

You're absolutely right.

The game is pretty much ruined for me because of the zebras.

OTOH, I can get something productive done by not wasting as much time watching football.

100% agree. Between the officials sucking, the players doing stupid celebrations after every decent play, and the low football IQ of today's average player, the college football product is in a freefall.

The UF/Tenn game was one of the more amateurish jobs I've seen in awhile. 3-4 plays should have been reviewed that weren't.

Then at the end, the referees actually moved the ball closer to the middle of the for UTenn's second FG. Pretty unreal.

Maybe i'm missing something here, but that's pretty bizarre. SIAP on Gatorbait.

I suppose you don't have an opinion on the clock controversy last year against Kentucky, do you?

Refs nowadays are the most trigger-happy (flags that is) people in America.

The game at the college and especially the nfl level is over-officiated. Not sure there is a good solution either.

I swear its a clinical diagnosis for every LSU fan. I've never seen this level of group think with any other fan base. It's truly amazing.

They could throw a flag on literally every play if they wanted to, especially at the college level.

What I'm tired of seeing are refs play a role in the outcome of the game with calls or non calls.

Stop making calls that had no bearing on the result of the play, or ignoring penalties that do.

College is bad, but the NFL game has become unwatchable.

Pointspread/gambling play a big part, IMO. Referees, in both college and pro, need to do a better job before the light bulb goes on and the general public realizes it's watching the gridiron version of WWE.

Agreed. This has made sports in general, not just football, nearly unwatchable. The NFL is really bad, but not as bad as the NBA....yet. But they're getting there.

Funny you mention the NBA. Watching the games, and thinking what I could be doing outdoors, I kept flashing back to two-minute garbage time in the NBA. It was like pulling hair.
