I guess there are a ton of naive people in the world. The ability to openly pay players isn't the driver that has "evened the playing field". The unlimited transfer portal is the main driver. Hell, in Saban's last year, he was literally one play away from going to another national championship and that was with a quarterback who couldn't read a children's coloring book to save his life.

Saban says he had to repair relationships with the African American population to get recruits

This is all straight from the documentary

I have no idea but I suspect this is a byproduct of the Hallman years... Hallman was such a terrible coach in so many ways...

I think Saban was a great coach.

But, there's absolutely truth to the fact that Saban was always playing with a stacked deck due to his willingness to break the rules to levels others weren't.

Stop the bleeding already. He’s in his 70’s.

If I’m still working at that age it means I screwed my finances up royally.

Saban was a class act and deserves every bit of praise he gets. He rebuilt LSU and Alabama in the same decade.

He owes nobody a thing.

I mean - the MFer was 72 and had been a coach since 1975. How about he was just ready to retire?

Can't wait to tell my boss when he retires at 65 that the REAL reason he's retiring is because he can't do his job anymore and has nothing to do with the $3 million dollar pension he's saved up working here for multiple decades AND watched his parents barely live past 67... nope, only because he now sucks at his job.

I think this thread is just another long list in the proof that Nick Saban broke a LOT of mother frickers in his time coaching college football.

He hadn't even thought of the Children's Hospital thingy at that time. Loser!

So are you arguing that he's not a great coach?
I’m arguing he’s the undisputed GOAT of managing an unpaid workforce with a massive resource advantage. But as an actual X's-and-O's football coach on a level playing field? 15-17 in the NFL, 0-1 against Kirby Smart in the NIL era, and ran away the second free agency hit CFB.

Why would anyone want to work in their 70s

Serious question, what was he doing that was on a level that no other schools would dare do? It simply can't be paying players, because schools have been paying players for years. To think Nick was the only one paying players is naive at best. So, what exactly was he doing that others were too ethical to do?

LSU racism pre Saban was interesting

There was no "LSU racism". Blacks in Louisiana just didn't want to go to LSU back then because THEY didn't want to go to a "white" school. Nobody at LSU ever insinuated that black students weren't welcome.

What? They were the winningest team from 1970-1995. They have the 9th best winning percentage ever.

Stopped reading right there because Miami and the impact it had on his career trajectory was appropriately covered in this documentary about the GOAT college football coach. Assuming the rest of your post was as unhinged and retarded as your first sentence. Currently laughing at you seething for six hours watching this thing

IMO... I don't agree with this..

I absolutely do agree with it. Saban knew Brees would have been a game changer in Miami and would have conformed to Drew. Obviously we already know that Brees/Peyton was a fit because we saw that happen but Saban conformed to so many different OC's at Bama and that's proof he is willing to adapt. I mean if Saban and Lane can mesh, why couldn't he mesh with Drew?

Dude stop. The dolphins outside of 1972 have been historically bad. His second year he won 9 games which is like the 3rd most regular season wins in 30 years. It wasn’t THAT bad

Do what? From the 1970 merger to the year Saban took over which is a span of 35 seasons the Dolphins had only 3 losing years (1975 6-8, 1988 6-10, and 2004 4-12). I mean, they had Don freakin Shula for 26 of those years. Let's not rewrite history just because they've sucked the last 20 or so years.

More of a soft-pedal.

Nick failed in the NFL because he could not be the dictator he could be in college (despite Huizenga giving him the keys). NFLPA, free agency and league rules were not going to let him run the strict program he was used to (remember, his last NFL stint was as Belichik's DC in Cleveland in 1994 and modern NFL free agency started in 1993). Simply put, he didn't like dealing with pros (or, to a lesser extent, the NFL's all-consuming drive to "parity").

He saw the writing on the wall that NIL and the portal was going to make college football even WORSE than the NFL. He was too old to deal with that shite again and he bailed.

I don't blame him one bit.

This is absolutely false. Saban is undeniably great. You don’t have to make things up to prop him up.
