The SEC office has now spoken-and made Draconian, no-nonsense, death-penalty-like threats that are super popular on this board, and which should scare the shite out of any school considering putting these guys on their team. So, what next?
It is highly likely that the 33 plaintiffs of the 2022 5 to play 5 will now sue the SEC like they sued the NCAA. But first- The preliminary injunction hearing against the NCAA this Monday. According to many-LSU will likely follow WHATEVER the court order is. Other conference schools to make a decision include South Carolina, Kentucky, Arkansas and Texas A&M (I'm not positive about this just what I've read). Not to mention numerous schools in other conferences. If the schools do not follow the court order, they would be defying the law AND be exposing themselves to endless lawsuits from the plaintiffs. Obviously between a rock and a hard place. Defy the law or defy the SEC. Get sanctioned by the league or be in violation of the law. Or like most schools-sit it out entirely-the apparent smart move.
And of course, the law today-could be entirely different than the law next week or next month-as politics have taught us. An injunction Monday could run into a brick wall by Wednesday.
My conspiratorial belief is the Clusterfrick was orchestrated by the SEC office-in conjunction with the NCAA-to force the issue via legislation. They were warned this would happen-they ignored it-and here we are.
Somewhere in all this are football games.

The SEC rules don't punish the players, they punish the schools and coaches. What would they sue for?

The SEC isn’t punishing the players. They’re punishing the programs that voluntarily joined their conference if they defy their rules. The rules are for the programs, not the players. If LSU doesn’t play the players or pay them (which is what it’s really about) then the players’ issue is with the teams that signed them, not the SEC.

LSU would rather deal with a lawsuit that the SEC and NCAA would be a party to rather than take on the SEC directly over two players.

LSU recruited a couple of 2022s which is clearly a complicated situation.
Texas A&M has announced a 3 year G league player and already has a Texas TRO that directly addresses the SEC.
But LSU is the rule breaker.

SEC would be a part of the lawsuit in rebuttal from LSU. This would drag the SEC into it because they made the rules that cause damages to LSU

Semantics that lawyers will deconstruct in complicated run-on, legalese sentences that include the words "antitrust" and "cartel". Not saying I agree-just playing Devil's Advocate, Henry. I mean, lawyers, right?

LSU’s responsibility is to follow the rules the SEC outlines. If the player sues LSU, the SEC is involved.

Liss of income. If they have to go play in the mountains west the sec is denying them the chance to make money.

The problem with all of this for the players is timing.
For them to try to get a TRO / Injunction against the SEC, they will need to file a separate lawsuit and get a hearing - which takes time.
Additionally, unlike suing the NCAA, the SEC will be able to pull the lawsuit into federal court rather than be stuck in state court in Louisiana. Federal court is likely to have a very different opinion than state court, especially since a federal court has already ruled in the Colorado case that the players cannot play under a TRO.
Sure the players can sue the SEC. But it will play out in federal court, where the current precedent at the federal level is no TRO to play.

The SEC isn't denying them anything. Schools may choose not to roster them because of the rules but that is the school's decision.

Well ultimately it comes down to if any contractual agreement was signed between LSU and these players.
LSU will not roster these players, unlike A&M.
Individual players will sue LSU.
SEC will be a party to the lawsuit due to their rules they enforce on their member institutions.
