Most of these cases pivot on antitrust. This isn't that.

LSU isn’t beholden to the SEC rules, unless they want to be a member of the SEC. They can sue the SEC all they want, but they better be prepared to go independent

Well, the president of LSU didn’t put his name to the new SEC policy. I think wisely.

As much as we want this thing to get figured out, what the SEC rushed to post to Twitter yesterday isn’t the answer.

An athlete’s argument could essentially be:
“LSU wants to hire me. I want to play for LSU. The court says I may be eligible. But 15 competitors have collectively agreed that none of them will permit someone in my class to work for them.”

That looks a lot like the employment restraints that antitrust laws are designed to limit. DOJ and FTC have made it clear that agreements among competing employers not to hire or compete for categories of workers probably violates the Sherman Act.

I’m not saying it’s a slam dunk. But the players would definitely have a case against the SEC.

If these players were to sue LSU, I’m not even sure what they would be entitled to in damages, they were cut from the NFL.

I think the real thing that needs to be understood is if they signed anything with LSU and what that compensation would have been.

Can’t imagine it would have been that much.

That’s all speculation, but LSU never announced Wright or Harris, much less RJ Luis. Almost certainly because they knew there were eligibility hurdles to clear. I think we can confidently assume they planned for the scenario they weren’t ruled eligible in any agreements they signed with the players.

LSU made the loophole & can stay in good standing

The SEC AD’s and presidents all agreed unanimously with the SEC rules and that Sankey had full authority to carry out those rules. That means Wade Rousse and Verge Ausbury we in agreement and will follow SEC rules and regulations. I don’t see why this is still a discussion?

So far as we know LSU hasn’t broken any SEC rule? Only A&M?

I think Kentucky has a basketball player too. And maybe South Carolina with somebody?
