Yet, they were both monumental busts in the NFL.

Lots of great college players are, I don't think that's the point of this topic.

Johnny Football's highlights from the Cotton Bowl alone are more impressive than that.

Not debating that, just saying that I think Newton is a more direct comparison to Jones' skillset than Manziel.

Jones was faster.

Newton was a better passer and he was harder to tackle.

Manziel was a better passr and quicker than Jones.

Jones could gallop and chew up big yards with long strides even better than Newton

Jones highlights were pretty incredible but the lowlights could be pretty ugly.

He could get really bottled up and shut down, which you could attribute to Arky being a one dimensional team with less talent than Manziel had to work with but I never saw Manziel disappear in big losses like Jones would.

Jones was also more turnover prone.

I loved watching the dude though. He got up a head of steam and no one was catching him. I was at DKR stadium when he ran wild against #6 Texas.

Cam always looked like he was moving slower than he was due to his build I think. We knew he was fast but I still remember being surprised by the 4.55 at the combine.

My dad had 8 sugar bowl tickets watching that game in Harrahs casino. Tickets went from priceless to worthless after that pass.

He was one reason I tried watching a lot of Arky games back then. I was always glad we weren't playing him that week since he was such a headache to stop.
I remember the first time LSU played him and he got to the corner on a run. I thought, oh ok, that's nice, run him down. He just kept accelerating up the field while I'm screaming in my head "Catch him! Who is this guy?"
His running stride was a thing of beauty... unless he was leaving your defense in the dust!

The better crackhead? Is this an on or off the field comparison?

Jones was a supreme athlete. It’s been said that when he showed up on the playing field or at the gym everyone immediately knew who the best was.

Manziel was the better QB.

Matt Jones was a WR playing QB.

What hurt him was he injured his shoulder, didn't get any development and his head coach was the OC who called terrible plays.

He did have two good WRs in George Wilson and Richard Smith.

George Wilson switched to safety in the NFL and did better than when he was in college.

Watching Matt Jones play was an optical illusion in and of itself. He looked like he was barely moving but just blew by people.

Ehhh. Manziel was a RB who chucked the ball up to Mike Evans. Put Matt Jones on that 2012 texas am team and he has a Cam Newton type season. Put Manziel on Jones’s Arkansas teams and he’s a nobody
