I’m not mad at Wade but I’m upset at what college athletics has become.
Make no mistake, these kids who play for Alma mater U anywhere deserved to be able to make money off of jersey sales, autograph signings, personal appearances, etc and realistic revenue sharing.
Traditional college sports has disappeared. It’s now just athletic clubs sponsored by universities. It’s still entertaining but at least some connection between the athlete and school is riding off into the sunset.
So, I don’t blame Wade. He’s doing what he’s being paid to do. He’s working the non-system of ambiguous rules in the Wild West.
I think it’s probably just us older guys who’ve become jaundiced from the present and coming landscape of college sports.

re: I'll Admit it - I Have No Idea How Basketball Recruiting Works Anymore

I'm with you.
I really don't understand how you split hairs on recruiting professionals from overseas vs NBA, G-League professionals.
I've always thought collegiate athletes should be allow to make money from autograph signings, jersey sales, personal appearances, etc. That is what NIL was intended to allow. The NCAA screwed the pooch by fighting it for years, including ridiculous rules about free meals, etc. Mark Emmert did a great job at LSU but he was a complete and utter failure as NCAA President.
Now the horse is out of the barn. College sports, particularly college basketball, has become a more of collegiate club just paying hired guns overseas to play for pay. I find it less appealing and less about the University and athletic traditions.
Don't get me wrong. I will still cheer on my Tigers and be excited for every victory, etc. It just won't seem the same.

It’s been a disappointing season. Roster deficits have been apparent. Pitching, defense and offense have been underwhelming to put it mildly.
I was struck by the physical differences between UGa’s players and ours. They looked the part of a contender.
You really can’t blame folks for their reactions even if some of it is catastrophe syndrome.
Jay appears to have taken a wrong turn with his roster management but he recognizes it. I have no doubt Jay will make adjustments and get things turned around.

Niang, Uno, there will be a commitment on tuesday.
That's pretty specific.
Will they be announced as well?

International athletes have to jump through some hoops (no pun intended) under the 5 for 5 proposal. I don't see how they can apply it immediately for the coming year.
I got this from a prominent law firm specializing in all of these requirements and rules.
* Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center
* Submit academic transcripts and amateur status proof
* Obtain proper student visa (usually F-1)
* Understand NIL payment limitations for visa holders
* Maintain timely academic progress per NCAA rules
"The F-1 visa remains the most common for international athletes. This visa category allows full-time study but restricts off-campus work, which complicates income opportunities from Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals. Other visa types like J-1 or O-1 may apply to certain athletes but come with their own rules and restrictions.
How NIL Affects International Athletes
NIL rights introduced in recent years allow many US student athletes to monetize endorsements. However, immigration law limits many international students from monetizing without violating visa terms. Proper legal counsel can clarify who may participate and guide athletes to stay compliant."
Holy crap on a cracker.

Thanks for the impressive status report. It sounds encouraging.
re: Nussmeier gets a bit of an unfair tag. Oline was horrible
Posted by JohnnyU on 4/30/26 at 10:08 am to Safety Blitz
He had a lot of limitations.
His injury.
A piss poor offensive line.
An even more piss poor offensive scheme and terrible play selection.
Zero run game. Defenses could drop 7 or 8 because there was no threat from our rushing attack.
Not a particularly great WR corp.
Nuss has some limitations but he's better than what we saw last year.

We better take care of business against Clemson..
Even though Clemson is "rebuilding", it's still going to be a tough game because they have quality athletes. Dabo has reshaped his staff. Lane has an entirely new roster and there is no "gimme" game to work out the bugs.
On the other hand, Lane has assembled the talent and what appears to be a formidable coaching staff. Someone called him an offensive savant and I believe that. He and Weiss will have a good game plan for certain.
Baker's D should thrive with the talent infusion.
It's in Tiger Stadium and the fans are going to be jacked.

LSU and UNC in Pole Position
You sure about that?
I think LSU could be in a great position. We have the coin. He would likely be a spotlight player at LSU versus one of many at a blue blood like UNC.
Wade has shown to be a pretty good closer.

the panic is being fueled by people who want him to fail
I don't necessarily think so. Maybe I'm being pollyanna about this but I think a fan who bleeds purple and gold, doesn't want any coach to fail even if they don't care for him. I didn't particularly like Les Miles but I damn sure never wanted him to fail and I liked Kelly even less. I reached my breaking point with both of them but I never pull against my Tigers. I did hope they would be replaced.
People are wondering whether we are "betting on the come" in terms of all the good things that could fall our way versus what they see at this moment. Wade is going to have a full roster. No one really doubts that.

Now eventually dominoes will start to fall but pretending we’re in some unforeseen tailspin without a plan is just dumb.
Absolutely. Wade is a smart dude and he will pull in a roster that fits what he wants. I don't really doubt that. in fact thanks for reminding us that some players will withdraw from the draft before May 27.
quote:
Again 99% of the people feigning this worry/panic are Wade haters who are hoping he fails and are trying to claim victory over this nonsense.
It's not hard to understand some anxiety about building the roster. I think there were a lot of expectations for immediate recruiting successes in terms of the portal.
People can be anxious or curious while not hoping for failure.

Well, if they are enrolled in one school now and deciding to go to another school, maybe they'd rather wait until the semester is over to announce.
I get that but, if so, why haven’t others who’ve announced done the same thing. Plus, they’ve already entered the portal so it’s known they’re leaving.

McMahon fans first. They can go follow their leader if he ever gets hired again.
I think all real Tiger fans will rejoice “once the winning starts”, included those who supported McMahon and his players who wore P&G and including those who weren’t really fans of Wade.
As for the “McMahon fans first” you and many others in this forum should look in the mirror. There were plenty of “Wade first” fans who openly dismissive of the Tigers and who swore they would not support LSU until Wade returned, making Wade bigger than LSU.

Wade will be laughing last because a lot of these other schools have already blown their wad with a big chunk of their NIL budgets while LSU is sitting pretty. Will be open season with much less competition for the seniors in the portal.
That would be okay but next year we’ll be replacing all those dudes and starting over.

What talent? I know you aren’t talking about retaining any of last years LSU players lol.
That’s a stupid take. There were serviceable pieces on last year’s team to be contributors.

There are two possibilities:
Wade has a well thought out plan of courting overseas players and hoping for the 5 for 5 plan to yield some one-and-done players plus some lagniappe of a HS player or two reclassifying;
Or
There’s a creek, pirogue, but no paddle.

That’s a wasted pick.
Sharp with the catch. Oh no, he fumbled!
Sharp the turnstile at TE just gave up another sack!

I'd love to see what you'd have said if MM only had 1 player .
Well, that’s all McMahon had after Wade was canned. He was able to cobble together a roster by getting a couple of his Murray State guys to come along with him, and the portal.
Wade should be able to assemble a complete roster at some point. Not time to panic but it’s understandable that some have anxiety about the potential to land enough SEC level talent this late in the game.

I think it falls more on development. He had a Heisman winner so you can't really say he didn't have talent.
I'm not sure how much he had to with Daniel's recruitment and he had little to do with his development.
If not for Daniel's and inheriting two first round wide receivers in Nabers and Thomas, Kelly would have been an epic failure.
Kelly was lazy, arrogant, out-dated and out of touch with his players. Combine that with his terrible coaching hires and it was catastrophe waiting to happen. His Grand Valley State championship pedigree meant nothing. His success at Cincinnati similarly meaningless and his record at ND was padded by service academy wins, the dregs of B1G like Purdue and weak ACC competition.
