I don't think any of the Big 3 in Florida will ever be "irrelevant".

No one ever thought Nebraska would be irrelevant or that USC would disappear for nearly 20 years. It doesn't seem to me that the FSU administration, AD and booster donor are "in alignment". They've made one baffling, stupid move after another since Jimbo left and that includes Jimbo's last couple of years there.

Saban also said Pete was the best defensive mind he’s ever been around.

Yeah, Kirby was awful and Bama didn't win any titles with Smart.

Ole Miss just picked up its 13th 4 star in June.

Of course this has nothing to do with the halo effect of last year's success, brought to you by.... Lane Kiffin.

Face it, you don't know what kind of success Golding will have at Ole Miss. See Larry Coker and Gene Chizik, both considered to be great assistants who had immediate success and then went down in flames.

I'm not saying Ole Miss won't continue to be relevant. Golding was tutored by Saban and he learned a thing or two about building a roster in the NIL and transfer portal era under Kiffin. Ole Miss has NIL resources. You just need to get over your butthurt about Kiffin leaving and acting like he had nothing to do with your recent success.
FSU is not that significant and it remains to be seen if Clemson will rebound.

It matters in terms of the SEC's image.

With the 9 SEC schedule it's not hard to imagine the best teams having 2 conference losses so an OOC loss is significant in terms of the CFP committee.

Has anyone ever told you are an annoying little dipshit and that you suck goat balls?

You are living in the past my friend. Yes, the ACC has been mediocre but in case you haven’t noticed a lot of ACC are buying players that would have gone to the SEC these days. Over a 2-3 year cycle that will bring them up and SEC teams down. Heck, you are seeing that right now with the BIG. It’s not random luck that no SEC team has been in the Natty 3 years.

I don’t disagree that NIL and the transfer portal have created more parity and SEC teams are not stacking rosters any longer. Still, other than Miami the ACC is not producing on the field in any large measure. Where is the depth in the ACC?
Traditional powers will get more than their share. Media rights of SEC and Big1G still give them the edge over the little 2 of the P4.
We’ll see in 2 or 3 years as you forecast but I wouldn’t bet your house on it.

Hell, just bring back Toonces, the most loved Tiger image of all time.

Supposedly, Jimbo begged Miles to not sit on the lead at halftime but Les paid no mind to Jimbo. Miles had blown big leads at Okie State as well.

1998 Alabama comes to mind. The Tide has a furious comeback aided by two tipped balls that fell right into Bama receivers hands for TDs. Plus, Abram Booty dropped a sure TD that would have sealed the game.

The correct answers are likely 2010 Tennessee and 2004 Oregon State.

Chambliss looked like a stud thus Kiffin the genius.

Ole Miss had been virtually irrelevant for over 60 years until Lane arrived. Since 1963 the Rebs had three 10 win seasons prior to Kiffin, while in the 6 years he was there, they had FOUR 10 win seasons. That's why Kiffin is highly regarded.

Chambliss didn't make Kiffin, Kiffin made Chambliss.

But if for some reason FSU and Clemson were ignored by the P2 (which they won't be)

FSU will be bordering on irrelevance if they don't right the ship after Norvell. Bowden's legacy doesn't mean much anymore. 2024 was an outlier for FSU relative to their performance since 2016.
Dabo has to get things fixed quickly as well. There's no assurance that they will stay relevant given his reluctance to use the portal.

I doubt that they would be "left out" of a P2 but it's not inconceivable. The ACC is incredibly weak even with Miami's resurgence under Cristobal. Even if you combined the best of the ACC and B12 you still wouldn't have much to work with.

The SEC and B1G are not going to participate in pooling media rights. Why should they?

Hopefully we learned our lesson of putting liberal, BETA "men" in charge of athletics at LSU.

Do you have to bring up politics and your warped, pseudo macho bullshite in every post?

quote:

It is the Gem of the ACC.

Why?

Other than basketball and academics it's not much and their uniforms are "sissy blue" ugly.

The value of the ACC programs is difficult to measure. There are a lot of "use to be's" in terms of football, like FSU and Va Tech. Clemson may be added to that list given their current trend. Miami has had the most staying power over the 40 years and is a very good academic school.

I don't think media markets matter that much any more but a presence in Virginia or North Carolina wouldn't hurt.

Football is the "straw that stirs the drink" and, right now, only Miami can be considered truly relevant, unless Dabo and Clemson rebound and Franklin can resurrect Va Tech. FSU is facing an uphill battle. UNC was so stupid they hired a washed up NFL coaching legend and bonafide sourpuss.

The defensive roster has not been top notch during his tenure. Last year's offense was so bad that the defense was gassed as the game wore on.

Daniels did that to everyone's defense in 2023.

As others have said, he plays an aggressive style of D and we seem to lose contain at times.

Baker is solid but he is not elite yet.

Folks still aren't over Lane Kiffin.

That is sad and pathetic.
He's been gone 16 or 17 years.

I've been clamoring for years that Ole Miss has the trashiest, rudest and most vile fanbase.

They have close competition with Florida.

I've been to Gainesville/Swamp four times for LSU games. I've never had a trip without an incident. One year the GBFTL was doing an impromptu pregame pep rally for about 100+ Tiger fans when a drunk gator fan bum rushed a group. He was immediately subdued by LEO.

As for Ole Miss fans, they have little brother syndrome relative to LSU and Kiffin's departure just upped the hatred and jealousy. They are pretentious pricks who still haven't won a conference title in over 60 years. They had major success last year because of Kiffin. You can bet that they are wondering if they can sustain it without him.

It's killed the soul of college athletics.

To be fair, the NCAA, and the college presidents who oversee it, killed college athletics.

For years they stuck their collective heads in the sand, ignoring the ongoing challenge to restrictive rules regarding players. The rules were so restrictive that it was a violation for a kid to accept a free meal and other such trivial rules.

Had NCAA gotten out front of the "name, image and likeness" crap, they could have formulated sensible regulations that an athlete could receive compensation for doing autograph signings, apparel sales, and personal appearance. Instead their inaction lead to the "collectives".

There are others areas where they dropped the ball as well. This was the long standing, greedy, high minded "integrity" argument and blind spot of the NCAA. Much of this rests at the feet of Mark Emmert who apparently just sat on his hands or on the toilet seat.

Holtz always seemed to be extremely arrogant.
He really had a stick up his arse about LSU for some reason.
Also, I remember walking around one of the Republican National Conventions totally sauced. Combined with typical Sylvester the Cat speech, you could barely understand him.

I read that his "splinker" hasn't been as effective this year.

He will adjust, retool his pitch selection, etc and be fine. He's a hard worker and very smart so he should figure it out soon.

Once again, the highest rated in-state guys are the hardest to keep in state.

This whole idea of the advantage we have with loaded in-state talent and no competition is a myth. It's just as difficult for us to sign these guys as it is for other schools with in-state competition.

History says otherwise. Sure, we don’t get 100% but we damn sure get the lion’s share. Before NIL, there were always the kids that just wanted to leave Louisiana.

I’ve always thought Pate is a fraud. Ranking DeBoer second is further proof that’s he a moron.
