It's a contract dispute. The only documentation would be the contract itself.

First, LSU is not broke. TAF had to be backstopped by donors recently. Not a big deal.
However. LSU does have an adversary view of paying any damages. This dates back into the mid 90s that I am aware of. More recently with Brian Kelly.
Third point. The player may be responsible for the buyout, but the recipient school has typically paid this on behalf of the player. That may include a reduced NIL deal in the first year. For example, OM paid TAMU for Walter Nolen's buyout.

So understanding contracts may not be the best wording here.....

How often do cases like this, filed in the plaintiff's home venue, end on summary judgment before the parties are allowed to conduct discovery?
And does LSU really want to risk discovery

Yep. I actually just won a contract dispute against a major insurance carrier. They turned over more than 2,000 emails during discovery, and we obtained their company-issued cell phones as well. Our personal phones weren't produced because they weren't company-owned.
That's why I'm skeptical when someone says the only evidence in a contract case is the contract itself. Sometimes that's true. A lot of times, it isn't.

Worse, if we win, which I suspect we will, then it’ll be LSU who has to explain why they don’t take care of their players when they transfer. If I leave my job for another company, I would expect them to cover my buyout. Schools cover the buyouts of their coaches, players should get no less.

Well, I imagine the kid won’t think much of his new school when they tell him good luck on their bill that they’re stuck with for breaking an agreement to join them. It’s not rocket science that you have to honor your contract, even us basket weavers understand that!

Big Twn had an absurd structure that was heavily favoring the schools. SEC has an entirely different structure for those deals, so your comparison is useless and idiotic, but then again, expecting an Ole Miss fan to use logic and reason rather than butt hurt in an argument is a bit much.
