You can either be a member of the conference and accept it's rules and standards, or you can frick off and fight with the NCAA in the courts.

Hell no, this is silly. LSU is a charter member of the SEC and a popular national brand with multiple championships in multiple sports.

Based on your commentary here, abiding within the rules isn't apparently enough. You want to punish anything perceived as intent.

On this point Kiffin simply changed teams from Ole Miss to LSU. Not sure how that plays fast and loose with the rules.
Agreed, Kiffin is who he has always been, which is why I really don't think this is aimed primarily at him. I think it is 1. The rest of the conference hates Will Wade, and 2. Fair or not, the rest of the conference thinks that LSU's AD does not have a competent hand on the tiller. That might be a facet of the "Kiffin just changed teams from Ole Miss to LSU" situation that you're not considering - I am not sure who Ole Miss' AD is but he may have kept Kiffin on a pretty tight leash, whereas at LSU the impression is that there is no leash at all.
Again, just conjecture on my part since we really don't know much.

I agree and I think you've illuminated what may be the bigger issue here. Kiffin hasn't suddenly become someone different, and Wade's reputation is already well established.
The common denominator is LSU's administration and whether the conference has confidence in its ability to maintain institutional control.
I suspect the SEC's concerns have much more to do with who's overseeing these programs than with either coach individually.
Obviously, we don't know what discussions have taken place behind closed doors but this explanation makes a lot of sense to me.

Nope. We need the win every other year.

I hope we leave. I’m more than done with you backstabbing, traitorous motherfrickers. I don’t want to be in this conference or affiliated with any of you anymore. Either kick us out or I pray we leave. Willingly or not.

If that's the sort of logic that this based upon, then the SEC is a dead conference walking. If they want rules, pass them and make them public and enforce them consistently. If the courts disagree with their rules, either comply or appeal to a higher court.
This isn’t a viable strategy when dealing with academic timelines and athletic seasons, as the NCAA has learned. The appeal is useless because the players in question are usually gone before the cases are ever heard.

This seems like a reasonable opinion. To me, it makes the SEC appear to be extremely incompetent and irresponsible as a governing body.
You have rules, enforce them. That's all you have to do. The courts will never let the SEC govern itself as long as they appear this incompetent.
I think that's the crux of the whole matter, really. In my reading of the situation, the SEC told its member institutions, "You cannot play formerly pro players." LSU apparently said or did something that sent the message to the SEC that they were at least considering doing it anyway. The SEC then told LSU, "You can't do that, you have to follow the rules or you can't be a member," and LSU's response apparently was, "Actually, you don't have the right to kick us out." That is an awfully bold card to try and play on LSU's part, and to be honest I'm not really sure why they would choose to go down that road. I don't understand the desired endgame. If LSU wins and the SEC can't enforce its own rules, then... what happens then? How is that situation better for anyone than the one we have currently?
I appreciate the response of, "It isn't that we don't want rules, we just want them to be enforced fairly," and I support that argument 100%, but as of right now I don't see LSU as an institution making it - just the fanbase. LSU's response so far has been, "We said we would follow the rules, so this whole thing is moot," but the SEC seems to have moved past their original position of, "Follow the rules," and is now saying, "LSU doesn't appear to have control of its own AD and we don't trust them to follow the rules, so we want our right to expel them held up in court in case we have to use it later."
LSU fans are free to feel however they want about this situation and if they want to egg it on that's their right, but I would be absolutely livid if Alabama's leadership got the university into this position.

I'm not really sure what arguments the institution is making but both Kiffin and governor have publicly said this was about rules being enforced equally.
I think the timing is all very odd, it's hard to say LSU has a LOIC when no rules have been broken. This lawsuit would've made more sense had it been filed after LSU actually violated the rule.
The SEC created a rule, laid out very stiff penalties, and then completely jumped the gun before the rule was even violated. Makes no sense and looks irresponsible. Threatening the nuclear option based on assumptions is just wild.

Not just no, but hell no
In fact, I’m sick of hearing about it
It would be destructive to LSU and the conference

No, not in the slightest. But I also want all SEC member institutions to follow the rules that the conference has established. And no, before you ask I don't have any proof of LSU breaking any rules. I am speaking generally.
Even though I find ironic a Gump is chiding another SEC school about breaking the rules, I agree with this sentiment.
I hope lsu remains in the conference and loses every game.
