I would love for someone to articulate which rules LSU is actually breaking, beyond we don’t like how LSU acts.

Which is what exactly? What is LSU doing that is bothering this conference so much? They aren't breaking rules.
It's just that vague "something" that folks like you talk about, but no one can actually define.
LSU is like a kid whose parents see him hanging out with drug dealers. He swears he'll never use drugs. "No, I'm gonna obey the law on that. Never catch me with them." Yet, he insists on continuing to buy drug paraphernalia. That makes no sense. If you are not eventually going to do the drugs, why buy the paraphernalia?
LSU's head men's basketball coach has been candid about LSU's strategy: 'We're going to be unapologetic about it. This is who we are. This is what we're doing. This is the path that we charted. We're going to go down it, and that's fine.'"

Lsu should get the smu treatment

It’s impossible to get serious, unbiased views here. I think a logical and dispassionate, 3rd party observer would understand the complete lack of seriousness on the part of the SEC in the way it enforces “rules” in light of Alabama basketball last year, Trinidad getting a 6th year, Texas rostering a player that went to minicamps while a kid who rehabbed and got $190 for gas money from the Saints is prohibited, etc. The absurdity of this while several players across the league are paid millions via NIL should be obvious to anyone. Even the stupid transfer portal rule change they floated this past week before getting reamed for it by the combined SEC fanbase should show you how unserious the league office is.
I think the bottom line is the SEC itself is navigating a bit of an existential crisis for collegiate athletics and trying to assert its authority even if has to play a little Calvinball to show the appearances of drawing a line in the sand.
Kiffin has ruffled a lot of feathers obviously, and Sankey despises Wade (and was undoubtedly pissed when LSU re-hired). The SEC office isn’t littered with LSU grads like it is from other schools. LSU, despite being a charter member with a pretty strong brand and a lot of national success this millennium, is not perceived as part of the good old boy network of self-perceived bluebloods. More so the crazy drunk uncle that is good for a laugh and only occasionally has its shite together. So a perfect institution to turn into a foil.

So when LSU breaks the rule, the conference should punish them, like any responsible governing body would.
Why all the extracurricular posturing and threats? And why do you support all of it? It's just undermining the SEC's real ability to govern, long term.

I don't. Charter member, great history. Huge brand. It'd be akin to the BIG10 tossing Michigan or Ohio State.
That said I think if you volunteer to belong to an organization you should abide by that organizations rules and policies or graciously remove yourself from said organizations membership rolls. Not that LSU or anyone has done this but we have seen Texas Tech attempt to play a degenerate gambler and I assume there is no written rule or policy against that in the Big12 because it was unthinkable until Texas Tech tried it. The desire to obtain a competitive edge in a multi-billion dollar a year industry will cause people to momentarily lose sight of what's right and wrong.
Abiding by those rules and policies would include abiding by any punishment handed down by that organization until such time as that becomes untenable and at that point once again graciously removing yourself from the membership rolls. Why anyone would want to be a member of an organization that they did not agree with is beyond me. If its a financial decision then abide, if you get to the point where it is merely a matter of principal leave.

Exactly, the conference has rules and should enforce them. If LSU doesn't like the rules and breaks them, they can either take the penalties or leave.
I don't understand the conference's decision to sue LSU or threaten expulsion before any rules were broken, there was no need for any of that and it only needlessly escalated matters.
LSU was only going to break the rule, or not break it. Let your penalties be what they are and stand behind them. There was no need to immediately jump to the worst case scenario, before the rule was even violated.
If I'm missing something, please point it out.

I don't think they thought they'd get away with, I think they did it to test the water to see where the boundary lines are given that they are moving daily. I seriously think that in a few years when players are playing in college stadiums across the country after actually playing in NFL stadiums last season we will look back and say "remember when LSU was called out for far less" and bitch and whine and claim we are done and then in the nest game thread it'll be obvious we ain't close to done. I don't think there is ANY limit to "eligibility" going forward. We were within gnats arse of seeing a degenerate gambler playing in Lubbock this year....if ANYONE can claim they have thought that was possible in January of this year they are lying....we ain't close to the end of what these programs will do in an era where there are truckloads of money involved to gain a competitive edge. And this far there has been no entity that the courts have said had any authority to restrict ANYTHING.

People keep saying this like LSU has broken rules. LSU never played a pro player like Alabama or rostered one like A&M, or the rest.
I may be mistaken but the gist of what the SEC is claiming is that it would be forced to be associated with an entity which attempted to do something that the conference thought would be damaging to its brand. The SEC's lack of authority to avoid that is being argued as a violation of the conferences right to associate with that entity. LSU willingly backed down but the conference is arguing that it has the right to disassociate with LSU or any member who, in the future, does not willingly back down.
From the get go LSU admin should have told Kiffin it was their way...and the conference's way....or the highway. For any number of reasons they chose not to, which is their right, but exercising your rights often comes with unpleasantness. Whining about it is a bad look.

I don’t want LSU kicked out, and I don’t think LSU will get kicked out.
When you hire proven reprobates such as Kiffin and Wade, you are begging for trouble.
LSU fans here deserve the angst they are getting as retribution for all of the “you’re scared” post in response to anything not slobbering all over the Kiffin hire.

Then challenged the conference and commissioner with LSU booster attorneys that no one believes wasn't in on it from the LSU admin side of it.
That is such bullshite and you know it.
LSU did not facilitate that suit in any way. His BR lawyer was from Southern and his two other attorneys were from Austin and Ft. Lauderdale.
That lawsuit is called the Pyburn suit. Named for Jack Pyburn who is a former UF/LSU player and was playing for Tampa at the time. I assume he thought he wasn't going to make a roster and thought he had a way in after the 5 for 5 ruling. SEC wasn't part of this suit until they inserted themselves into it. LSU was added to the suit along with the SEC. You can't sue yourself.
quote:
Put the commissioner on the stand and embarrassed him
LSU did not. You have one of those derangement syndromes.
quote:
This was after the SEC had privately and publicly told LSU to chill the frick out with pushing to get these kids eligible multiple times before it got that far.
Then after all that you finally backed down at the last minute and you wonder why the SEC is pissed?
Wade Rousse has publicly stated that he told Sankey a week before the Clemson game that LSU would not roster the former NFL players. Lane had said in pressers that LSU had been in talks with the SEC and would follow their guidance on the matter the week of that game. WW said at his media days that they haven't rostered the former pro and wouldn't.
So either this isn't about the pro players or Sankey is just butthurt and is using his power to hold something over LSU.
