People keep saying this like LSU has broken rules. LSU never played a pro player like Alabama or rostered one like A&M, or the rest.

Then challenged the conference and commissioner with LSU booster attorneys that no one believes wasn't in on it from the LSU admin side of it. Put the commissioner on the stand and embarrassed him.

1. Challenged the commissioner? Is that not allowed?
2. Embarrassed the commissioner? What did ANYONE do to embarrass him?

He embarrassed himself being that poorly prepared to answer questions about eligibility rules and the athletes situations that had him hauled in there in the first place.

For that reason alone hes unfit to lead the conference. Absolutely fricking whiffed on what 5for5 is. Wish I had the quote/testimony handy.

See you are still missing the point. LSU back channeled the connect these players to these attorneys. In the eyes of the SEC (other member institutions) and Sankey, it is no different than LSU dragging the commissioner to Baton Rouge for a show trial with the intent to embarrass the commissioner. Along with the Governor, state attorney general, and members of Lousisiana's contingent in the United States Congress cheering it on.

There was no SEC rule against playing former pros at the time, although Sankey did advise the courts to rule Bediako ineligible. The SEC then subsequently passed a rule preventing it.

Can't speak to the A&M situation.

If LSU continues to allow politicians run their AD, then Yes. Otherwise, clean house in the athletic department and have an AD that actually runs things instead of dipshit politicians.

What rules have been violated, if that is what you were suggesting?

Because they have.

I listed them.

Again.

However, let’s not play games and pretend that LSU wasn’t urging the suit in Louisiana courts brought by the players.

Clearly possible, but I don't know that it's definite. There were over 30 athletes involved in the Baton Rouge case, some weren't football players, and some are now playing for other programs like South Carolina.

Doesn't make a lot of sense for LSU to assist with gaining a lot of non football players and rival players more eligibility, IMO.

But there had never been a public release from the SEC office before, trying to bring the slightest bit of sanity to a player eligibility question before. LSU immediately went against the rest of the conference. It’s not surprise it was received poorly. Though the guideline was never technically violated, LSU made it pretty clear the intent was to do so. That escalated the situation dramatically. I think it all should’ve been dealt with behind closed doors subsequent to that, but I don’t know if it was possible.

Maybe, but LSU's actions were no different than those of Alabama in the Bediako case. The conference reaction was the only difference.

Why is LSU the bad guy for doing the same thing others have already done?

No, of course not. LSU is a cornerstone of the SEC. The conference is weaker without you baws. But I also understand why everyone else is sick of your shite lol

I agree, LSU wanted something that the SEC did not. Yet LSU did not violate any stated guidelines.

Is their lack of humble obedience to Sanky's wishes actually driving this?

Would there continue to be an SECRant? If not, then no. I like this place.

Presumably chicken is making some ad money off this, so I wouldn't worry.

The ConferenceUSARant.com site might get more attention, though.

Let me say it again: THERE WAS NO SEC RULE AGAINST PLAYING FORMER PROS AT THE TIME. Sankey asked the courts to rule Bediako ineligible. The SEC then passed a rule disallowing former pros from playing. So the difference is that Alabama never broke or threatened to break a conference rule. It may seem trivial but legally it is not.

No, not at all. Message boards are one thing, but LSU fans I’ve interacted with over the years are a cool and fun bunch of folks. They’ll serve up boudin and all sorts of other great food and share drinks all while taking shite about Bama—and it’s great.

Moreover, there are some schools/teams/fans that are simply quintessential SEC. Part of the SEC DNA. LSU is one of them. It just wouldn’t be the same.

Finally, to my knowledge, it’s in the only state that has drive-thru daiquiris. That alone had me appreciating the Bunkie-Baton Rouge Greater Metropolitan Area.

So no. Do not want LSU kicked out.

Was thinking earlier that I wish we alum/fans of other schools could collectively petition our presidents and ADs to end this crap.

This.

If Sankey takes tangible action against LSU out of spite, he can do it to anyone. And that is a terrible precedent to allow. Love them or hate them, LSU attracts eyeballs and engagement. Replacing them with A 2nd tier ACC team would be a HUGE downgrade.

There was no rule when LSU allegedly recruited Wright and Harris either. And they never even played. So why is LSU getting sued and threats of expulsion?

First, let me say I was against the Bediako re-rostering from the beginning. Alabama thought they could get away with it in the Wild West of TROs that had become the norm. The SEC, and Sankey specifically, came out strongly against it. The difference was there had not been a guideline prohibiting that very thing immediately before it. I suspect there was some back channel discussions between the Bama AD and the SEC, and UA never publicly said anything opposing the commissioner’s stance.
In the LSU case, the suit and leaving open roster spots happened immediately after the SEC released guidelines for member institutions. That set of rules wasn’t just from Sankey. All schools had input on it. As much as LSU fans want to blame the commissioner, it has to be recognized that other member schools were supporting him in the situation.
