Serious question: How is having a statue built equate to “low expectations and standards?”

The implication is that he was being told if he kept doing what he was doing then he could have coached there indefinitely and had a statue built in his honor. What he was doing was putting together good seasons with no hardware or championships of any sort to show for it.

Maybe he wants the expectation to be an SEC title first with annual NC contender status and felt OM was content with 10+ wins a year.

worse… see above.

He was told by someone at OM to stay… theyd be content with 7 win seasons, just happy in the offseason he was still the coach. That didn’t sit well with him

Yep not sure why LSU isn't higher. Like 2019 with the change in offense these huge changes and Lane bringing in this crazy transfer class should have LSU ranked # 1 going into the season but for some reason everyone is keeping expectations down in the polls. Lane has no excuse not to win it all with what he has brought to LSU this season.

What about florida Atlantic

If 7 wins is the bar, I guess they have to go above Ole Miss, too.

Lane had 2 x 10+ win seasons and 2 x conference championships around a sub-500 year.

FAU fired Willie Taggart (3 years of sub-500 play) and Tom Herman (2 years of 4 wins or less). So, maybe the Owls just expect more. But, we won't know as neither of the follow on HCs after Lane got to 7 wins.

In either case, Kiffin seemed to have changed expectations at a historically bad football program.

I get all my Ole Miss news from LSU fans. No one is more up-to-date than the tiggers.

I like Lane, but he has diarrhea of the mouth unnecessarily. You only make comments like that when someone has "hurt your feelings".

Someday, another coach with a smidge of class like Saban will reappear.

A state with 1 major university vs a state with 2 major universities. I will never understand how universities like LSU and Arkansas don't win more championships. It definitely should be easier at LSU than at Ole Miss, but LSU seems to consistently under perform. Maybe Lane can change that.

Let them…. He builds up everything to where it backs him in a corner. He will say things like this and then remind everyone at a press conference how fans of one of the most expensive rosters shouldnt have high expectations. In truth he is addicted to the high of do or die moments but doesnt have a high average of prevailing. This famously played out in his “get your popcorn ready” pre game snippet just before getting trounced by Saban.

Actually, I'd say it is the opposite. Most Ole Miss fans I know are past the point of Lane and his drama. I almost feel sorry for the guy at this point. He has to be a drama queen and make it all about himself.

Whatever the Lane Train's situation at Ole Miss, Cignetti at Indy was even less desirable, much less traditional, and even historically depressing. Oxford can flex that much tradition on a bad day.

Lane has proven to be more transient than Coach Saban, as he wanders from job to job trying to be happy. Here's what he doesn't get: happiness is not a destination; it's more about what you make it, and so is success.

The trade-off: What Lane gave up in legacy and fit in Oxford will never be found in Baton Rouge, not in a million years. If I had any regret, that is where I'd be feeling it the most, regardless of future success. Of course, in time, there is always the next job offer and a way we go.

i'm glad your expectations for LSU are as high as they are. i'll check in on you throughout the season to see how you're doing.

very few people that i know, very few people even on the rant, were saying LSU was going to go on that run in 2019. we all hoped that the Joe Burrow we saw in the 2nd half of that UCF bowl game would transition to the season, and if it did, we had optimism......but no one was touting LSU as going on that run. but keeping blowing up the Lane Train smoke up your own arse and enjoy the ride.

Ironically he won’t even repeat the success he had at Ole Miss.

To be fair, you also said he would 100% be at Ole Miss for year 7.

And what if he wins a championship at LSU? What if he wins 2?

Then what?
