Yeah, but there's difference between Muschamp at Florida and Smart at Nebraska: Muschamp had to play an SEC slate following Urban Meyer's pseudo-dynastic run. Little tolerance on the parts of Florida fans after tasting that success.

Nebraska, however, faces maybe one top ten team a year (if that) and not only has one of the more supportive fanbases outside of the SEC, but also one of the most tolerant (having put up with Pellini for this long).

Seems like an obvious move for 5 years.

I don't care what Kirby does.

I am just glad he put his foot in his mouth and fricked up his chance at the AU job last year.

Dude is an idiot. Jim Tressel will coach again but not in that area of the country and Chris Peterson to Nebraska is a lateral move at best!

Kirby sticking around makes me think Saban might be getting close to the end. I think he's retiring or trying the NFL again, I don't think he goes to Texas.

Saban isnt leaving Bama and isnt retiring any time soon. He will coach until at least 2020. Does Saban look like his health is declining? Nope.

I found naked pictures of him already. Do I post them here or on the MSB?

4) Alabama was - and is - a much better job historically than Nebraska.
5) Probably most significant for a potential coach, Alabama was willing to pay top salary and reinvest into facilities. Nebraska's next HC won't make more than $3M per year.

Well #4 is a completely subjective point with no way to determine that. For example, right now I bet David Cutcliffe believes Duke is a much better "job" than Bama. There are an infinite number of intangibles, with each specific coach, which makes one job better than another. We aren't talking actual football teams here, but jobs.

Also, as to #5, you act like a ceiling of $3 million per year at a school full of tradition as Nebraska is something to sneeze at. I believe Nebraska has at least comparable facilities, and is willing to reinvest money into the program. $3mill at a historic program in a weaker conference sounds like a dream job to some people I am sure.

It's weird hearing Pelini of Bill King weekly. I wondered what might make an active coach so tied to a radio program.

Yeah really. I always wondered the same thing.

By "put his foot in his mouth" do you mean "asked for full status on the NCAA issues"? I think he had a few requests for info during the interview process - none of which to my knowledge were outside of the realm of realistically expected info.

What, specifically, did he do to "put his foot in his mouth"? Just curious what your side heard.

I would be surprised if Kirby took that job. Seems below him.

Asinine statement.

He gone. I mean why wouldn't Nebraska hire a defensive coordinator with no head coaching experience?

You could buy half the state of Nebraska for $3M.

Yes. Along with asking if he could still coach in Bama's bowl game. A truly laughable question considering the need to put together a staff and talk to recruits before the dead period. Something that requires 100% effort and attention. Doubt we would have gotten Lawson and certainly not Monty or the flip with Daniels if Kirby had half-assed it.

Unless Saban says he is retiring in the next few years, why are people so convinced Smart is going to wait around on the Bama job? The only time I can think of a "coach in waiting" scenario working out is Jimbo Fisher, and he was waiting on a guy in his late 70s to retire. I don't know, I just think it's a poor career move to remain in an assistant coaching role for what could be 5+ more years when you could have the opportunity to get paid more than double what you are now at a school where you can certainly build an elite football team. Not specifically Nebraska, but if a premier job becomes available, he'd be a fool not to take it.

I mean, as of right now, he could probably take a HC job at another school next year, coach for a few years, and if Bama really wants him still, they could hire him at that point when Saban retires.

Agree. It is dumb. There is no guarantee bama will offer Kirby the job, there is no knowing when Saban will retire, and if Bama is really sold on him they would go get him wherever he is when saban does retire.

Anyway, I don't much care. Saban runs that defense. Kirby does his job well and I am sure has learned a frickload that could help some other program out due to his time under saban. But since my caring is dependant on whether it hurts bama and I do not think Kirby leaving would hurt for long, IDC.

Not doing what it took to get the AU job was an epic frick up on Kirby's part and he may never in his life have an opportunity like that again, but it worked out well for AU, so I haz the happy as far as that goes.

Wasn't Joker a CIW? Those are the only two I can think of where a CIW actually became HC of the program.

Yeah, I thought the NCAA slapped a 5 year show-cause on him.
