I would have problem with allowing possibly three teams from the big12 and ACC that don't belong in a playoff taking sec and big10 slots.
I like the idea of having some weight being put in conference rank, but four teams from each league is he’d for mention accept.
I get that. Right now, we are still at a 12-game National Playoff where at least you get a bye for winning a conference championship. But we are looking at a least 16 in the near future. And I don't really like the expansion, and really do not want more past 16. But, once it gets to 16, the conference championship become even more meaningless.
Maybe a compromise to the model I posted would be only allowing 2 ACC and 2 Big 12, then add 4 "at-large" in.

I love South Carolina and think they've fit in great in the SEC since '92, but replace them with Vandy so we get back to the pre 1992 SEC. Don't really care about any other conferences.
That’s why I added the twelve and thriteen team leagues.
South Carolina and Arkansas are still good fits.

I pretty much agree with his conferences. That would be a start to getting college football back to where it once was. College
Sports should be about regional rivalries and conference championships and less about playoffs and national championships.

Why? Have the conferences at a size in which each team plays all the other teams in the conference. The champs then advance.
I think I derailed the thread some. I guess the point of the thread is an "ideal-world", which I think we are way past small conferences as splitting up conferences. This was just my solution to what we already have plus what is coming with possible future conference expansion.

There are a lot of models.
My problem is with the sec championship game loser. (I guess the big10 game loser as well).
They played that extra game, then have to play for first round, to where it might benefit you to be in third place of your conference.

Me too. Also, If i’ll remember the schedules from the 80s. Alabama had rivalries outside of the conference with Notre Dame and Penn State. That didn’t really happen so much anymore but every year there was a marquee game out of conference.
Notre Dame still played USC and Michigan.
Penn State played Miami, Pitt and Notre Dame.
Nebraska played Colorado and Oklahoma.

He would have Texas and Oklahoma in different conferences? What an idiot.

So I might be showing my age, but yes young grasshopper, Texas and OU were in different leagues back until the 90s.
And they still played OOC. You can still do that just like the following rivalries:
SoCar-Clemson
FSU-UF
Louisville-Miami
Uga-GT
Formerly
FSU-Miami
vt-UVA

Auburn played Georgia Tech every year after they left in 1963 up until 1987. But G Tech was an independent all those years.

He wants to put us back into a bunch of low ratings, low quantity opponents, and low quality destinations. Get the old SWC gang back together? No thanks. F Tech, F Baylor, F TCU, F UH, and so on and so forth.

It ain’t happening unless CFB implodes. We are way past that. I think it is just a nostalgia post about an “ideal” world of CFB in his eyes. Nothing more to read into it.

We were in separate conferences until the Big 12 formed. I wouldn't want to go back to those days. Being in the same conference just ramps up the importance of that game.

SEC::Vandy
Big Ten: Northwestern
ACC: South Carolina
Big East: Miami, Penn State
UConn stays Independent. Kick UCF completely out. Send them to C-USA

It should be like the NFL was at 16 games:
16 team leagues. Your 9 conference games are you annual 3 opponents, another division, and the team that ranked the same as you in the two other divisions.
So lets say Bama won their division last year. This year they would play:
Division opponents:
Auburn
Tennessee
Vandy
Another division:
LSU
Arkansas
Miss St
Ole Miss
Number 1 team in other 2 divisions in 2025:
Georgia
Texas A/M
This will somewhat keep the best teams all playing each other.
