Not so much the targeting…but it was now or never as to beating Oregon…
LR is permanently second tier in Big 10 or worse, that is not what USC paid for…..that is why he is on hot seat…..
He hired a good DC in Patterson but it will take a year to install a real defense,………

TBH Mateer regressed, and that was from a poor year last year where we all thought the hand surgery was the issue…….apparently it was not that..

At 72 he is NOT a quitter….
As mentioned it was not our choice. In retrospect everyone gave Mateer a pass last season due to hand injury, he was bad after that. But this years results are not good either. Right now Hawkins is #6 rated in QBR , Mateer is #70 rated. LINK
Yesterday it was TOs that Mateer did that was so extremely bad….maybe as much as a 28 point swing…
They are very different dual threats, Hawkins is quick and fast running with a good arm. Mateer is good passing but not quick running. Arbuckle and Mateer were a package deal when we got them.

It is clear Arbuckle is not ready for prime time. He averaged 7.9 yds a run in first down then threw 71% of the time on second down against Mich. Mich secondary was by far their best part of their defense. Obviously we lost. Mich is an average team with a great secondary and a mobil big QB

OU wins. If OU has 2 TD lead it may get ugly. Neither Underwood or Carr can do much if BV unleashes his aggressive defense….
OU offense is much more varied and effective than last year. This game may see this offense or we may see a conservative version without all the facets, because we play Georgia and Texas back to back in a couple of weeks….
