I thought Mullen would last longer than he did at UF

Curly Hallman and Mike Archer at LSU.

Didn't think that Hallman was going to be a great hire...but I was convinced that Archer was going to blow it out of the water. How did he not look like a 100% lock as an awesome hire.

The hire that really stunned me at how bad he turned out to be...Bill Curry at Kentucky. He didn't set the world on fire at Bama, but was 10-2 his last season. I had no idea he would be such a horrible hire (is there anyone else who would done less with Tim Couch on their roster)?

Wrong. Cardele was 2nd string and had started in wins against Michigan and Wisconsin in the BIG 10 championship game was named MVP.
Ezekiel was the best running back in football and Herman used that.

Tops my list. Also thought Dan Mullen would be way more successful than he was, though he didn’t exactly crash and burn. He just didn’t live up to expectation. Had he stayed in Starkville I think he would’ve continued to be successful and challenge for the west every other year or so.

Maybe not "crush it", but I thought Brad Scott would do well at South Carolina, but holy cow I missed the mark on that one

Bert at Arkansas.
They had a massive O Line with historic running games. I try ought for sure he’d kill it there.

Muschamp at Florida

Mullen at Florida

You're wrong.

Braxton Miller was the #1 and injured his shoulder.
J.T. Barrett took over for Braxton. Barrett broke his leg vs Michigan.
Cardale took over and made his first career start in the Big Ten Championship game.

Braxton Miller #1
J.T. Barrett #2
Cardale Jones #3.

So yeah, I know it hurts.
But yes Bama did lose to a 3rd string qb making his 2nd career start.

Also, Saban called Herman after the championship game to pick Hermans brain on how he was able to shred the Bama defense.
So apparently Saban felt that it wasn't just a matter of handing the ball to Zeke.

Too much of an up-hill battle after the NCAA sanctions. He didn't help himself, either.

I thought Bret Bielema would do better at Arkansas. Connected with Razorback fans early, and it's pretty rare to get successful coaches to jump between Power 5 gigs.

Well that's just not true

Cardale Jones was behind Miller and Barrett.

Agree on Bielema

It's obvious he was just a product of Alvarez.

I thought Taggart would have succeeded at FSU before he ever coached a game. But I saw them play VaTech in his first game and they were so unorganized it was pathetic.

Maybe not crush it but I thought Houston Nutt would be pretty good at Ole Miss, as in win 8-9 games most years with maybe a 10 win season every now and again. Did not expect him to take the nose dive he did.

I also thought Derek Mason could get Vandy going to bowl games. Figured Franklin laid a good enough foundation that a guy like Mason would be able to continue some modicum of success.

Mullen
Herman
Bielema
Strong

Those are most surprising to me. Florida went back to their old ways of decades ago, just fold up and quit.

The culture at Texas prevents them from returning to Darrell Royal days. They have fired every coach they have had since he retired. Bielema had some strong teams at Wisc but he looked lost on the sideline at Hogland.

I thought Joe Moorhead would have done better at State

His offense at PSU was dynamic

If you take into consideration Mullen at Florida had better talent, facilities and a much weaker division to play in than at State, he did a much worse job at Florida. Not to mention he inherited a state program that had been to 1 bowl in 8 years and guided us through the strongest years in the West averaging 8 wins a season

Chip Kelly at UCLA was something I though could be special.

So far not so much.
